We specialize in light-duty, heavy-duty, and heavy recovery operations, including winching, load displacement, and emergency roadside assistance. Position Overview The Heavy Rescue Tow Truck Operator is responsible for operating heavy-duty tow trucks, wreckers, and rotators to recover and transport large vehicles, including tractor-trailers, buses, heavy equipment, and accident-damaged commercial vehicles. This role requires advanced driving skills, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to safely handle complex recoveries in high-pressure and emergency situations. Key Responsibilities Operate heavy-duty tow trucks, wreckers, and recovery equipment in compliance with company policies and DOT regulations. Respond to accident scenes, breakdowns, and emergency calls promptly and professionally. Perform heavy recoveries, winching, rollovers, load shifts, and load transfers safely and efficiently. Assess accident scenes and determine the safest and most effective recovery strategy. Secure, transport, and deliver vehicles and equipment to designated locations. Maintain proper documentation for all service calls, including work orders, mileage, and time records. Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of tow trucks and equipment. Perform minor mechanical repairs and routine maintenance as needed. Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, law enforcement, and roadside assistance providers. Uphold the highest safety standards and follow OSHA, DOT, and company safety protocols. Qualifications Required: Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement. Clean driving record and ability to pass DOT physical and drug screening. Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy-duty wreckers or similar equipment. Knowledge of heavy recovery techniques, rigging, and load securement. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm in high-stress situations. Preferred: WreckMaster or TRAA certification. Experience with rotator operations. Basic mechanical and welding skills. Physical Requirements Ability to lift 75+ lbs and work in all weather conditions. Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined or elevated spaces. Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
