Warehouse Technician – Mortuary Services Sacramento Mortuary Transport (SMT) Location: 35 Quinta Court, Sacramento, CA 95823 Job Type: Full-time, in person Pay: $20.00 per hour Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch About the Position Sacramento Mortuary Transport is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Warehouse Technician to support daily operations at our mortuary holding facility. This position involves direct handling and movement of deceased individuals, including adults, infants, and fetal remains. Applicants must be comfortable working in this environment and treating every individual in our care with dignity and respect. The role combines decedent care, inventory tracking, facility cleaning, supply management, and coordination with dispatch and funeral home staff. Accuracy, consistent attendance, and following established procedures are essential. Responsibilities Receive and release decedents, verifying identification, documentation, and personal belongings. Place decedents in designated refrigeration areas and maintain accurate storage-location records. Conduct physical inventories and reconcile them with electronic records. Promptly report missing information or discrepancies. Monitor and document refrigeration temperatures and report equipment or storage concerns. Perform condition checks and immediately report concerns to the appropriate staff. Assist with preparing decedents for transport, cremation, burial, or viewing under staff direction. Help move decedents, load and unload vehicles, and position caskets or containers using approved equipment and team assistance. Confirm required paperwork accompanies outgoing transfers. Maintain secure, accurate records of personal belongings and assist with their release. Clean and disinfect refrigeration areas, the warehouse, prep room, restrooms, equipment, and other designated spaces. Receive deliveries, organize supplies, track inventory, and report replenishment needs. Assist visiting funeral homes, drivers, and other service partners professionally. Communicate clearly with dispatch, funeral home staff, and management regarding pending tasks, delays, and concerns. Complete assigned checklists and follow safety, sanitation, confidentiality, and chain-of-custody procedures. Qualifications Valid driver’s license. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to follow written instructions and complete tasks with minimal supervision. Basic computer skills and willingness to learn company tracking and communication systems. Professional communication and respect for confidential information. Comfort working directly with human remains and in refrigerated storage areas. Previous warehouse, inventory, healthcare, mortuary, or funeral service experience is helpful. Physical and Work Environment This is an active position involving standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, cleaning, and assisting with the movement of decedents and equipment. Employees must use designated lifting equipment, team assistance, and required personal protective equipment. Essential duties must be performed safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.
