WHAT YOU WILL DO Build and establish the purchasing function from the ground up, including policies, procedures, workflows, controls, and performance metrics. Define and implement purchasing processes within the ERP/MRP system, covering requisitions, purchase orders, supplier acknowledgements, delivery dates, pricing, inventory requirements, and open-order management. Develop and maintain a qualified supplier base spanning electronic components, PCBs/PCBAs, mechanical and electromechanical components, tooling, consumables, and capital equipment. Lead RFQ/RFP activities, evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate pricing and commercial terms, and select suppliers based on cost, quality, lead time, capacity, and risk. Build strategic relationships with key suppliers and hold them accountable through performance metrics including on-time delivery, quality, lead time, pricing, etc. Drive measurable cost and lead-time reductions through negotiation, competitive sourcing, alternate suppliers, volume leverage, and supplier development. Monitor component availability, market conditions, allocation, shortages, and lifecycle/EOL risks, and proactively expedite critical components to protect production schedules. Develop alternate sources for critical components to reduce single-source and supply-continuity risks. Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by ensuring components and materials are sourced and available for prototype, pilot, and production builds. Partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, planning, finance, and operations to ensure material requirements are accurately defined and delivered on schedule. Create purchasing reports, dashboards, and KPIs that give management visibility into spend, savings, supplier performance, open orders, shortages, and supply risks. Establish purchasing strategies that support high-mix, low-to-mid volume electronics manufacturing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree (any field of study), or equivalent years of relevant experience. 10+ years of progressively responsible purchasing, procurement, sourcing, or supply chain experience, preferably in electronics manufacturing. Deep, hands-on experience purchasing discrete electronic components. Demonstrated experience negotiating component pricing, lead times, payment terms, MOQs, and other commercial conditions. Strong understanding of electronic component supply chains, including availability, allocation, lifecycle/EOL issues, lead times, alternate sourcing, and supply risk. Proven experience managing and developing supplier relationships. Experience purchasing MRO materials, manufacturing consumables, and other indirect requirements. Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and establishing or improving purchasing processes within an ERP environment. Demonstrated ability to identify and execute meaningful cost and lead-time reduction opportunities. Ability to work independently and build systems and processes where none currently exist. Ability to travel internationally and domestically, including to suppliers and manufacturing sites. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience establishing a purchasing/procurement organization in a startup, greenfield, or rapidly scaling manufacturing environment. Experience supporting electronics, PCBA, SMT, aerospace, defense, medical, or other high-reliability manufacturing. Experience supporting NPI and transitioning products from prototype into production. Experience with supplier qualification, supplier audits, contracts, and performance improvement programs. Familiarity with procurement KPIs, spend analysis, supplier scorecards, and cost-reduction programs. Experience with ERP/MRP implementations or significant ERP purchasing-module configuration and process development. WHAT SETS YOU APART You are a builder and an operator, equally at home creating purchasing systems from a blank sheet and expediting a critical shortage to keep the line running. You negotiate aggressively but strategically, protec…
