SMS Equipment is looking for a forward-thinking Operations Manager to lead our Edmonton branch. In this key leadership role, you will oversee service, parts, administration, and customer engagement, driving operational excellence and empowering teams to deliver exceptional results. You will work closely with the General Manager to guide performance, strengthen internal capabilities, and influence business outcomes. You will champion SMS Equipment’s commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and high-quality customer service while leading both direct and indirect teams in a dynamic operational environment.

Location: Edmonton, AB.
Salary: $135,000 to $145,000 per year, plus incentives.
Work Arrangement: Fixed on site – working 5 days per week from the branch.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, develop, and manage safe and effective shop and field operations for Edmonton Construction, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Maintain and strengthen a strong safety culture through visible leadership and best practices.
  • Plan, organize, and direct all branch activities, including service, parts, and maintenance, to maximize efficiency of assets, inventory, workforce, and financial performance.
  • Set performance standards that support cost management, quality, workflow optimization, and customer satisfaction.
  • Deliver the annual business plan and budget in collaboration with the General Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with contracts, supplier agreements, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for the Service Manager and Parts Manager on customer issues and operational decisions.
  • Strengthen customer relationships through proactive communication, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster a positive employee relations climate through coaching, clear expectations, and inclusive leadership.
  • Guide the branch toward operational excellence in productivity, environmental compliance, cost management, and team development.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate will bring 8-10 years of experience in construction or industrial operations, including maintenance and equipment/parts distribution, and a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience at the mid-level manager level (leader of leaders). Other qualifications include:

  • An undergraduate degree in business, engineering, or a related technical field is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of operational management principles, including cost control, workforce planning, inventory management, and customer service.
  • Proven ability to lead high‑performing cross‑functional teams through change and evolving business needs.
  • Strong customer‑focused mindset with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build trust across diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success solving complex operational challenges using experience, precedent, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment where both proactive and reactive problem solving are required.
