Position Summary The Domestic Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating domestic transportation operations to ensure the timely, efficient, and cost-effective movement of freight. This position provides leadership and operational oversight to the domestic transportation team while managing carrier relationships, service performance, shipment activity, and customer requirements. The Domestic Transportation Manager works closely with customers, carriers, vendors, and internal departments to resolve transportation issues, maintain service standards, and identify opportunities to improve processes, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily domestic transportation operations, including truckload (TL), less-than-truckload (LTL), and other domestic freight movements. Provide leadership, direction, training, and support to domestic transportation employees. Coordinate and monitor shipments from pickup through final delivery to ensure customer requirements and service expectations are met. Manage carrier relationships and evaluate carriers based on service, availability, cost, reliability, and performance. Review and negotiate transportation rates and support pricing activities to maintain competitive and cost-effective transportation solutions. Monitor active shipments and ensure customers and internal teams receive timely and accurate status updates. Identify and resolve transportation issues, including delays, missed pickups or deliveries, capacity constraints, service failures, and shipment discrepancies. Review and maintain accurate shipment documentation, including bills of lading, rate confirmations, proof of delivery, and other transportation records. Oversee transportation billing and assist with resolving freight charges, accessorials, invoice discrepancies, and related issues. Monitor carrier and operational performance using established service levels, KPIs, and other performance measures. Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, vendors, and internal departments. Identify opportunities to improve transportation processes, workflows, service quality, and operational efficiency. Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures and transportation best practices. Ensure transportation activities are performed in accordance with applicable company policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards. Support the implementation and effective use of transportation management systems and other operational technology. Assist with escalated customer or carrier issues and provide appropriate solutions to maintain strong business relationships. Support departmental planning, workload management, and resource allocation based on business needs. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
