This position offers aviation professionals the opportunity to play a key leadership role in managing cargo operations within a dynamic airport environment, driving both operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
As the Cargo Operations Manager, you will lead and oversee all aspects of cargo operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and superior service delivery. Your responsibilities will include:
• Operational Leadership:
o Supervise and manage daily cargo operations, including import/export processes, bonded warehouse activities, and international cargo movements.
o Ensure full compliance with Transport Canada, IATA regulations, aviation security standards, and customs clearance requirements.
• Team Management & Development:
o Lead, coach, and mentor cargo staff while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
o Oversee staffing levels, scheduling, recruitment, and payroll approvals to meet operational demands efficiently.
• Compliance & Safety:
o Maintain compliance documentation and ensure readiness for audits and inspections.
o Ensure all personnel are properly trained, certified, and adhere to safety and operational standards.
• Stakeholder & Partner Relations:
o Build and maintain strong relationships with airline partners, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and regulatory authorities.
o Represent the organization in all cargo-related operational and compliance matters.
• Financial & Process Management:
o Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and cost-control initiatives to ensure financial performance.
o Monitor and optimize cargo handling processes through operational reporting tools and tracking systems.
o Support the introduction of new technologies and continuous improvement projects that enhance service efficiency.
• Health, Safety & Quality:
o Promote a clean, organized, and safe workplace environment.
o Actively participate in company-wide Health & Safety and Quality initiatives.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:
• Education & Experience:
o Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
o Minimum five (5) years of experience in air cargo or aviation operations.
o Minimum three (3) years of experience in a supervisory or management role.
• Technical Skills:
o Strong proficiency with cargo management and tracking systems, and a solid grasp of operational reporting tools.
o IATA certifications (e.g., Dangerous Goods Regulations, Live Animals, Perishables) are considered an asset.
o Familiarity with bonded warehouse operations, aviation security, and customs procedures.
• Key Competencies:
o Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
o Strategic problem-solver capable of thriving in a high-pressure, 24/7 operational environment.
o Excellent attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to service excellence.
o Valid Class 5 driver’s license required; ability to obtain Airport Security Clearance and provide a clean Driver’s Abstract.
o First Aid and CPR certification considered an asset.
