Yard Operations Lead

Solara Garden Center is seeking a working Yard Operations Lead to oversee daily yard activities at our five-acre retail and wholesale nursery. You will work alongside the yard crew, organize daily assignments, care for plants, and keep the property ready for customers and deliveries. This position requires practical nursery or landscape experience and the ability to safely operate a loader to handle mulch, large palms, and other heavy materials. Bilingual communication skills are preferred. What you’ll do Lead the yard team, assign daily priorities, train employees, and follow through on completed work. Oversee watering and plant care, including coverage during weekends and team members’ days off. Check plants for stress, pests, disease, and damage, and promptly communicate problems. Maintain irrigation coverage and report leaks, failures, and repair needs. Keep plant displays, paths, loading areas, and work areas organized and clean. Operate a loader to load, unload, and move mulch, large palms, and other nursery materials safely. Coordinate unloading and put-away with our Receiving & Inventory Coordinator. Support order pulling, staging, and customer loading while protecting plants and keeping customer orders identified. Work with the inventory team to identify and document damaged or unsellable plants before disposal. Care for tools and equipment, address hazards, and communicate unfinished work and priorities to management. What we’re looking for Practical experience in a nursery, garden center, landscaping operation, or similar environment. Loader operating experience , including handling bulk materials and large plants safely. Knowledge of watering, plant care, and common signs of plant stress. Ability to organize a crew, give clear instructions, and work alongside the team. Dependability, sound judgment, and respectful communication with coworkers and customers. Bilingual communication skills preferred. Previous crew leadership or supervisory experience is a plus. Work environment and schedule This is an active outdoor position involving standing, walking, bending, and moving plants and materials using appropriate equipment or team assistance. Opening, closing, and weekend coverage are assigned through the work schedule. This position requests Sunday through Thursday working schedule, with possible overtime on Friday and/or Saturday.
