Woodshop Assistant / Procurement Assistant

At VDB, our team includes skilled craftspersons who seek to improve the quality of the built environment in Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Ideal candidates will possess qualities of reliability, leadership, and integrity. Responsibilities include: Assist with entry level millwork tasks, will train candidates looking for a career in millwork Pick up items as needed for the shop at various vendors and distributors Assist in unloading deliveries from trucks Conduct monthly shop inventory of bulk materials and consumables Package and load items for transport Assist with project deliveries and logistics Help coordinate tool repair and shop cleanliness Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor Qualifications include: Interest in learning the millwork trade, opportunity to apprentice. Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record and up-to-date car insurance Prefer knowledge of working in a shop and / or woodworking and furniture industry Knowledge of fabrication techniques and tools required to complete a job Ability to multi-task Maintain professional demeanor while dealing with clients, suppliers and vendors Ability to drive a 26’ box truck Must be able to work in a production facility with/without air conditioning and with production noise and dust May be required to work occasional overtime as required Capable of lifting or moving up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis, 25 pounds on a regular basis, and standing for long periods of time on concrete surfaces A background check may be conducted for this position Virtuoso Design + Build provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
