Position Summary The Warehouse Equipment Operator/Relief Route Driver supports third-shift distribution operations by preparing and loading customer orders and operating powered material handling equipment. The employee also provides relief route delivery coverage when assigned. This hybrid role ensures automotive parts and aftermarket products are selected accurately, handled safely, and delivered on schedule. Truck loading and equipment operation are the primary duties; the employee must remain qualified to perform relief driving assignments. Key Responsibilities Order Preparation and Truck Loading Pull, verify, organize, and stage customer orders using pick tickets, invoices, manifests, product descriptions, or handheld scanners. Inspect products for damage and confirm item accuracy and quantities; report discrepancies before loading. Load delivery trucks and trailers according to assigned routes, delivery sequence, and company loading and securement standards. Assist with unloading incoming shipments, receiving, stocking, rotating, and counting inventory as needed. Equipment Operation Operate forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks, and other authorized equipment to move, locate, relocate, stack, and retrieve merchandise from staging areas, racks, and storage bins. Complete required equipment inspections and promptly report defects or maintenance needs; operate only equipment for which training and authorization have been completed. Relief Route Driving Provide route coverage for absences or other operational needs as assigned by management; safely operate company vehicles and deliver orders to designated customer locations. Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report vehicle defects, accidents, or delivery concerns promptly. Unload and stack products at customer locations with care and provide friendly, professional customer service. Complete delivery paperwork and submit required documentation promptly; maintain vehicle cleanliness. Safety & Team Coordination Follow company safety policies and applicable equipment, traffic, and DOT requirements for the assigned work. Use required PPE and proper methods when handling heavy or hazardous materials. Remain attentive and alert during warehouse and driving duties. Report fatigue or any condition affecting safe operation before operating equipment or a vehicle. Coordinate loading priorities and route coverage with supervisors, drivers, and warehouse staff. Relief driving assignments must account for overnight work, adequate rest, and applicable driving and duty limits. Keep warehouse work areas and loading zones clean, organized, and free of hazards. Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. One to two years of experience operating warehouse equipment and at least one year of route delivery or transportation experience. Valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate for assigned vehicles and a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting company driving standards. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card for applicable driving assignments and meet associated company screening requirements. Current forklift certification or ability to complete required company equipment training and evaluation before independent operation.
