Transportation Engineer Trainee 1 - Kanawha Co.

Nature of Work **Disclaimer-this position will be considered classified-exempt and “at will.” The Transportation Engineer Trainee 1 will report to the for Consultant Review Section of the Plans, Specifications, and Estimate (PS&E) Unit. The function of the PS&E unit, of Engineering Division, is to work with the project managers to review consultants designed highway plans at various stages of development for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal, state and local requirements, verification of pay items and quantities. Develop the project estimate using the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTOW) are software program. Prepare and assemble the Plans, Specifications, and Estimate documents for submission of the Plans, Specifications, and Estimate package to Contract Administration for advertising. Processing of any project amendments, and maintain the project status report. Performs related work as required. Special Requirement: A valid license as a registered professional engineer in West Virginia is required within ten (10) years of employment. Minimum Qualifications **Preference may be given to Candidates with these qualifications** TRAINING/EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, industrial, petroleum, mining, environmental, engineering technology, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program. Substitution: Certification as an Engineer Intern (EIT) by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers of West Virginia. Please attach your certification for verification. Note: For the training/education, the qualifying degree must be verified before the employee may be certified as permanent. Please attach your degree transcript or diploma to your application. EXPERIENCE This is the entry-level classification in this series. No prior experience is required. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver’s license is required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : A VALID LICENSE AS A REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER IN WEST VIRGINIA IS REQUIRED WITHIN TEN (10) YEARS OF EMPLOYMENT.
