Tool Data Management Specialist
NOVPosition Summary The TDM Program Specialist will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s Tool Data Management program using TDM Global Line. This position will establish standardized processes for tool data, tool assembly, tool crib management, tool circulation, presetting, machine support, and related production workflows. The role will serve as the primary internal owner of the TDM program and will coordinate activities among Manufacturing, CNC Programming, Tool Crib, Tooling, Quality, Engineering, IT, Purchasing, and external TDM partners. The successful candidate will ensure that TDM becomes an effective, accurate, and routinely used part of the company’s manufacturing system. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Own the overall TDM implementation strategy, schedule, priorities, and deliverables. Develop and maintain the TDM program roadmap. Coordinate with Globaline/TDM implementation specialists, software vendors, and internal stakeholders. Establish governance, standards, user responsibilities, and approval processes. Identify risks, resolve implementation issues, and communicate program status to leadership. Lead regular project meetings and maintain action-item tracking. Perform other work-related tasks as assigned. Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures. FACILITY/GROUP SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Document current-state tool-management processes and design improved future-state workflows. Define standardized processes for: Tool and component identification Tool assembly and disassembly Tool presetting and measurement Tool crib inventory and replenishment Tool movement and tracking Tool availability at machines Tool life and wear management NC program/tool-list coordination Tool inspection, quarantine, and disposition Configure TDM workflows, stations, locations, statuses, permissions, and required data fields. Create standard operating procedures, work instructions, and process-control documents. Ensure that TDM processes support production requirements without creating unnecessary administrative work. Data and System Administration Establish standards for tool master data, naming conventions, part numbers, descriptions, classifications, and units of measure. Coordinate the cleansing, validation, loading, and ongoing maintenance of tool data. Develop processes for managing tool drawings, models, assemblies, cutting data, and related technical information. Maintain data accuracy and identify duplicate, incomplete, or obsolete records. Support TDM interfaces with CAM, ERP, tool crib, presetter, and machine systems as applicable. Manage user roles, permissions, system settings, and change requests. Serve as the first point of contact for TDM issues and coordinate escalation when needed. Analyze tool shortages, search time, machine downtime, inventory accuracy, tool utilization, and process delays. Identify opportunities to reduce redundant tooling, unnecessary tool movement, and avoidable setup time. Use TDM data to support tool demand planning and production readiness. Establish regular audits of tool data, inventory, process compliance, and system usage. Recommend improvements that increase tool availability, data reliability, productivity, and cost control. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS Associate’s degree in manufacturing technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Business, or a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Two or more years of experience in CNC machining, manufacturing engineering, tooling, tool crib operations, production support, or manufacturing systems. Working knowledge of cutting tools, tool assemblies, CNC machining processes, presetting, and tool-life concepts. Experience with TDM Global Line is preferred but not required.
