Supply Chain Buyer / Planner

About Us We are an established precision CNC machining manufacturer serving aerospace and defense customers. We work under a certified quality management system. Our team is small enough that this role has real ownership and works directly with leadership. The Role You'll own our supply base. Your job is to get the right material and outside services here on time, to spec and with complete paperwork, so production never waits. That means knowing our suppliers well enough to see a late delivery coming weeks ahead, and having a backup plan when one happens. You'll also help shape how purchasing works in our ERP/MRP system as we keep improving it. What You'll Do Supplier delivery and relationships Own on-time delivery of raw material, castings, forgings, purchased components and outside processing (such as heat treat and coating) Know each key supplier's capacity, lead times and constraints; raise risks early and drive recovery plans Track supplier delivery and quality performance, and follow supplier corrective actions through to closure Visit supplier sites as needed Planning and purchasing Plan material and outside processing against customer orders and long-term agreements so jobs start on time Place and manage purchase orders and blanket releases for production material, outside services, packaging and MRO Pass customer and contract quality requirements down to suppliers on every PO Track pricing and lead-time trends, and flag changes that affect quotes and margins Sourcing Find, qualify and onboard new and second-source suppliers to reduce single-source risk Negotiate pricing, lead times and terms Maintain the approved supplier list and supplier qualification records Documentation and compliance Review incoming material certifications and supplier paperwork for conformance and full traceability, including DFARS specialty metals requirements Handle supplier communications in line with export-control (ITAR) requirements ERP and process improvement Own the purchasing, receiving and supplier-management processes in our ERP/MRP system Document how the work gets done, define requirements for improvements, and test changes before they go live Keep supplier, lead-time and pricing data accurate so planning decisions can be trusted What Success Looks Like After Year One No production delays from material or outside processing that weren't flagged well in advance Current lead-time, capacity and performance data on every active supplier A qualified second source for each critical commodity Purchasing runs through the ERP, not around it What We're Looking For Required 3+ years in purchasing, buying/planning or supply chain in a manufacturing environment Experience buying raw material, castings, forgings or outside processing for a machining or metalworking operation Hands-on experience with any ERP/MRP system Strong Excel skills A direct, persistent communicator who follows up until the issue is closed U.S. person status under ITAR (see below) Preferred AS9100 or ISO 9001 experience, including supplier qualification and corrective action Defense or aerospace supply chain experience, including DFARS flow-downs and material certifications Experience with long-lead commodities and blanket or scheduled-release agreements Has helped define requirements for, or roll out, a new system or software tool Associate degree or higher in business or supply chain, or equivalent experience Other Details On-site, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Occasional remote work may be possible after onboarding, at the manager's discretion and as business needs allow. Occasional travel to supplier sites This position requires access to technical data controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
