Supplier Quality Engineer
Thermoseal IndustriesJob Summary: The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for managing and improving supplier quality performance across assigned suppliers and commodities. This role oversees supplier quality metrics, corrective actions, SCARs, incoming material quality, supplier qualification, PPAP/FAI activities, audits, and supplier change control. The position partners closely with Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, and Operations to resolve supplier issues, reduce defects and cost of poor quality, ensure compliance with Thermoseal specifications, and drive continuous improvement in supplier processes and performance. Job duties: Supplier Quality Management Own supplier quality performance for assigned suppliers and commodities. Monitor supplier defects, rejects, recurring issues, PPM, and overall quality performance. Create and maintain supplier quality scorecards and performance metrics. Identify high-risk or poor-performing suppliers and establish improvement plans. Serve as Thermoseal’s primary quality contact for supplier-related issues. Escalate recurring or unresolved supplier quality issues to Supply Chain and Engineering leadership. Supplier Corrective Actions & Root Cause Create, issue, track, and manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) through closure. Review supplier root-cause investigations and corrective-action plans. Evaluate supplier 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, and other corrective-action documentation. Verify corrective-action implementation and effectiveness prior to SCAR closure. Track overdue corrective actions and follow up with suppliers until resolution. Identify repeat failures and require additional corrective or preventive actions when necessary. Incoming Quality & Nonconforming Material Establish incoming inspection requirements based on supplier performance, material risk, and historical quality. Develop inspection criteria, sampling plans, and acceptance requirements for purchased materials. Support Receiving and Quality with supplier-related nonconforming material. Coordinate supplier containment, sorting, replacement, and corrective actions. Support disposition of supplier-related nonconforming material. Reduce dependence on 100% incoming inspection through supplier process improvement and demonstrated performance. Supplier Qualification, PPAP & FAI Support qualification and approval of new suppliers. Coordinate supplier First Article Inspection (FAI) and PPAP activities when required. Review supplier dimensional reports, material certifications, Control Plans, PFMEAs, process capability, and inspection documentation. Ensure supplier documentation meets approved Thermoseal drawings and specifications prior to production release. Support validation of new or modified supplier components prior to implementation. Supplier Change Control Review proposed supplier changes for potential product, process, quality, or customer impact. Coordinate with Product Engineering when changes affect drawings, materials, dimensions, tolerances, specifications, or BOM requirements. Ensure supplier substitutions and changes receive appropriate technical approval before implementation. Support Engineering Change Request (ECR) and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processes when supplier changes require formal engineering review. Prevent unauthorized material, component, process, or supplier changes. Supplier Audits & Development Conduct supplier process and quality-system audits based on risk and performance. Assess supplier manufacturing controls, inspection processes, traceability, process capability, and corrective-action systems. Develop corrective-action plans for audit findings and monitor closure. Work with suppliers to improve process controls, inspection methods, mistake-proofing, and manufacturing capability. Participate in supplier capacity, process capability, and readiness reviews for critical components. Support supplier continuous-improvement initiatives.
