The Law Society of Alberta (Law Society) regulates the legal profession in the public interest. In alignment with the Law Society’s mandate, vision, and strategic priorities, the Trust Safety department delivers a program that protects the public by helping ensure lawyers manage client trust funds responsibly. This includes evaluating lawyers' (and law firms’) compliance with the Rules of the Law Society, setting standards for trust accounting, requiring financial reporting, offering guidance and education and taking appropriate steps where concerns are identified. The Supervisor, Trust Safety, is responsible for supporting the delivery of Trust Safety programs through operational leadership, compliance oversight, risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, vendor management, continuous improvement initiatives, and the effective delivery, quality, and integrity of the Trust Safety audit function. The position supervises staff, contributes to department planning, supports regulatory decision-making, and helps ensure the consistent application of Trust Safety processes and standards. The Supervisor works closely with the Manager, Trust Safety, and partners with other regulatory departments to identify emerging risks, prioritize oversight activities, support strategic initiatives, leverage analytics to enhance oversight, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of Trust Safety programs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Compliance and Risk Oversight Support the administration of Trust Safety compliance programs. Review information obtained through financial reporting, monitoring activities, and other regulatory sources to identify emerging risks and trends. Assess risk indicators and recommend appropriate follow-up activities. Support enhanced monitoring activities and compliance interventions where required. Participate in the development and implementation of risk-based approaches to Trust Safety oversight. Enhanced Analytics and Program Intelligence Lead and support initiatives that leverage data analytics, technology, and automation to improve regulatory effectiveness. Identify trends, anomalies, and risk indicators that may require further assessment or action. Support the development of dashboards, metrics, and reporting tools that inform departmental decision-making. Monitor program outcomes and recommend opportunities for improvement. Vendor Management and External Relationships Oversee relationships with external service providers and consultants supporting Trust Safety programs. Monitor vendor performance, deliverables, timelines, and contractual obligations. Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and program effectiveness through external partnerships. Collaborate with internal departments regarding procurement, contract management, and vendor oversight. Leadership and Staff Development Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing work environment. Assist with onboarding, training, and professional development activities. Support performance management initiatives and employee development planning. Program Development and Continuous Improvement Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of Trust Safety programs. Participate in policy, procedure, and process improvement initiatives. Support implementation of strategic and operational priorities. Monitor program metrics and prepare reports for management. Stakeholder Engagement Build effective working relationships with lawyers, law firms, internal stakeholders, regulators, and external partners. Support communications, education, and outreach activities. Participate in meetings, presentations, and other stakeholder engagement opportunities. Liaise with other Regulation Department operational units regarding law firm risk and compliance with the Rules, including participating in hearings or proceedings as an expert witness or technical resource, as required.
