Position Summary: The Washburn Tech Student Transportation Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from Washburn University Technical College in Topeka along designated routes. Depending on student enrollment and transportation needs, the driver may operate a large passenger van, SUV, school bus, or wheelchair-accessible bus. The driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and courteous transportation while representing the school district in a professional manner. The position works under supervision of the transportation director and within established district policies, procedures, and transportation regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Washburn Tech Student Transportation Provide safe and reliable transportation for students attending any of the three Washburn University Technical College campuses. Operate assigned district vehicles according to established routes and schedules. Depart for morning student drop-off at approximately 7:15 a.m. and depart for afternoon student pick-up at approximately 10:30 a.m. Ensure students are transported safely and efficiently to and from their designated campus locations. Afternoon Bus Route Provide coverage for regular afternoon route drivers during absences, emergencies, or other staffing needs. Follow established routes, schedules, and district transportation procedures. School Activities Transportation Provide transportation for activity trips when needed, assuming the assignment does not interfere with primary Washburn Tech transportation responsibilities. Ensure the safety and appropriate supervision of student passengers throughout activity trips. Other Duties Assist the Transportation Director with special projects and transportation-related assignments. Support district events, activities, and transportation needs as assigned. Maintain assigned vehicles in a clean, safe, and presentable condition. Report vehicle maintenance, safety concerns, or other issues promptly to the Transportation Director. Perform other duties as necessary for the effective and efficient operation of the Transportation Department. Qualifications: Hold a minimum of a Kansas Class B CDL with a P and S endorsement is preferred; if no CDL, must be able to get the CDL with the S and P endorsement within 6 months of employment Complete and maintain an American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification Complete and maintain an National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course Must complete physical examination along with drug and alcohol screening. This includes random sampling pool during employment as per DOT standards Demonstrate good driving skills and possess a good driving record free from serious driving violations Exhibit thorough knowledge of traffic laws, bus regulations, and district policies governing student transportation Personality conductive to working with students, parents, administration, and maintaining good discipline in the school vehicle Professional Conduct: Adapt well to change and complete all assigned tasks in a timely manner. Demonstrate professionalism when communicating with staff, patrons and community members. Maintain emotional control under stress and in stressful situations. Maintain timeliness, regular attendance, and physical presence at the job. Terms of Employment: Part-time position (hours and schedule determined by building needs).
