Sr. Ocean Import Coordinator

Ocean Import Coordinator We are seeking an experienced Ocean Import Coordinator to join our Chicago operations team. This position is responsible for independently managing day-to-day ocean import shipments from arrival through final delivery and billing. We are looking for someone who has solid hands-on ocean import experience and can manage routine transportation and operational issues with limited management involvement. Key Responsibilities Coordinate ocean import shipments, including FCL and LCL cargo Monitor shipment status, vessel arrival, rail movement, and container availability Coordinate customs clearance and communicate with customs brokers as needed Arrange inland transportation, including FTL and LTL deliveries Communicate directly with trucking companies, customers, terminals, CFS facilities, and other service providers Schedule pickups and deliveries and follow up on shipment progress Resolve routine operational issues, delays, and delivery problems Review and manage accessorial charges such as demurrage, detention, storage, and other transportation-related costs Handle customer service and provide timely shipment updates Prepare and process billing and related shipment documentation Support special transportation requirements, including flatbed, heavy cargo, oversize cargo, and project cargo when needed Qualifications 3+ years of hands-on ocean import experience preferred Strong knowledge of FCL and LCL import operations Experience coordinating inland transportation, including FTL and LTL Ability to independently manage shipments and resolve routine operational issues Strong communication and customer service skills Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities Experience working directly with trucking companies and transportation vendors Experience with flatbed, heavy cargo, oversize cargo, or project cargo is strongly preferred Experience with freight forwarding systems and Microsoft Office is preferred Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an experienced ocean import professional who can independently manage shipments from arrival through final delivery and billing. We are particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable handling not only standard containerized freight, but also more complex inland transportation requirements and who can work directly with carriers and vendors to develop practical solutions when operational issues arise.
