MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and, fulfillment for Macmillan US, and is their primary distribution facility for North America. POSITION SUMMARY: Coordinates and supervises all activities associated in the Shipping department by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. ESSENTAIL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Under the direction of the Shipping Manager, the Shipping Supervisor is responsible for supervising the full and loose cast staging ,truck routing and loading, and preparing accurate shipping documents in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. Schedules outbound freight to comply with the customer’s requirements and warehouse operations and capacities in conjunction with the Traffic Manager. Stages locations for incoming carriers. Ensures proper labels and documentation has been applied before shipping. Ensures that orders are complete and counts verified before loading trucks. Gathers and maintains all data and records relative to shipping activities. Ensures the accuracy of all shipping documents including all international paperwork. Assures that shipping count match picking document and bill of lading (BOL). Assists in resolving any discrepancies. Maintains good security habits at dock doors and assists in maintaining the security of the warehouse. Operates forklift and material handling equipment to assist in loading and unloading trucks when necessary. Trains employees on safe operation of forklift and material handling equipment. Maintains proper staffing and training. Oversees the shipping operation by continuously “walking around” and observing the department in action. Completes all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate fashion associated with absenteeism, performance evaluations, and maintaining operating supplies. Review operating goals and standards on a daily basis and monitors achievement. Ensures the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the department to meet service standards. Assists in developing a program to train and motivates personnel for increased effectiveness. Works within the operational budget. Assists in developing the budget when required. Enforces established safety, health, and housekeeping policies and procedures in order to minimize injuries, loss of production time, and damage. Conforms to all company policies and procedures (Employee Handbook) Complies with all environmental, health, and safety requirements. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises one lead and one office clerk in addition to the hourly employees in the Shipping Department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Shipping Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
