Shipping & Receiving Specialist (with Expeditor Responsibilities)
Machine Plus llcJob Overview We are seeking a proactive and detailed Shipping & Receiving Specialist with Job Expeditor responsibilities to join our fast-paced machine shop floor. In this role, you will manage standard inbound and outbound freight operations while actively accelerating production workflows. You will serve as the critical link between the shop floor, raw material inventory, and the shipping dock—using our JobBOSS ERP software to track active jobs, locate parts, and ensure custom components leave our facility on time. Responsibilities Shipping & Receiving Operations Verify & Inspect: Match incoming raw materials, hardware, and raw castings against purchase orders and blueprints to ensure material certifications and counts are accurate. Package & Pack: Securely package, crate, and label precision-machined parts to prevent damage during transit, complying with carrier and customer specifications. Logistics Coordination: Schedule and coordinate pickups with LTL carriers, UPS, FedEx, and local courier services. Material Handling: Operate forklifts and pallet jacks to safely unload incoming stock, load outbound trucks, and organize staging areas. Job Expediter Responsibilities ERP Tracking: Utilize JobBOSS to look up active jobs, track material statuses, and monitor routing steps through the shop. Shop Floor Flow: Physically audit the machine shop floor to locate delayed or high-priority jobs, moving materials to their next designated workstation (e.g., from CNC milling to deburring or outside processing). Manage Outside Processing: Coordinate and track parts sent out for secondary operations like anodizing, heat-treating, or plating to ensure they return on schedule. Bottleneck Resolution: Communicate directly with machinists, programming, and scheduling to flag part shortages or production delays before they impact delivery dates. Package & Pack: Securely package, crate, and label precision-machined parts to prevent damage during transit, complying with carrier and customer specifications. Logistics Coordination: Schedule and coordinate pickups with LTL carriers, UPS, FedEx, and local courier services. Requirements Experience: 2+ years of experience in shipping, receiving, or logistics management, ideally within a machine shop, manufacturing, or job shop environment . Software Skills: Proficiency using JobBOSS (or equivalent manufacturing ERP software) to track job routings and inventory is highly preferred. Blueprint Reading: Basic ability to read shop blueprints or traveler documents to verify part numbers and dimensions is a plus. Forklift Certification: Active forklift license or previous experience operating forklifts safely around heavy machinery and raw metal stock. Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and spend the majority of the shift standing or walking on a concrete shop floor. Technical Savvy: Proficiency using Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and familiarity with WMS or ERP systems. Strong Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly coordinate with internal departments and external freight vendors. Problem-Solving: Proactive mindset capable of multitasking under tight deadlines and resolving transit disruptions. Excellent customer service skills: To coordinate with internal teams and external carriers effectively. Strong organizational skills: With attention to detail; ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy. Must be able to stand, walk, and move on level warehouse surfaces for extended periods. Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and steel-toed footwear.
