Shipping and Receiving Clerk, Forklift Operator
Atscott Mfg Inc.Summary: As a Shipping and Receiving Clerk/Material Handler, you will play a vital part in ensuring the smooth flow of incoming and outgoing shipments, maintain accurate records, provide excellent customer service and a chance to make a significant impact on the company’s supply chain. Duties/Responsibilities: Receiving incoming shipments, verifying quality and inspecting goods for any damage or discrepancies against packing slips and invoices. Coordinate with other departments (e.g., purchasing, sales, logistics) to ensure clear communication and seamless movement of goods. Analyze shipping and receiving data to identify areas for improvement and implement process optimization strategies. Report any discrepancies or damages to received shipments promptly. Resolve complex discrepancies and issues related to received or shipped items, working with carriers and vendors to find solutions. Prepare and maintain shipping and receiving documentation, including bills of lading, packing slips, and customs documentation. Prepare outgoing shipments by carefully packing, labeling, and weighing items according to customer specifications and carrier guidelines. Unpack and sort received goods, ensuring proper storage according to designated locations. Utilize warehouse management systems (WMS) or other software to record shipment details. Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Operate various material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) safely and efficiently. May have some interaction with delivery drivers and customers, providing excellent customer service. Create and maintain procedure documentation. Perform other duties or tasks as required. Required Skills/Abilities: Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to follow instructions and adhere to company procedures. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve complex shipping and receiving issues. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Basic computer literacy and proficiency in learning new software programs. A positive attitude and willingness to learn. Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks effectively, and prioritize under pressure. A commitment to safety and a keen eye for detail. Education and Experience: Previous Shipping and Receiving/packaging experience Previous forklift operator experience High School diploma or equivalent preferred Class A /Commercial Driver's License, and valid health card is a plus. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy items, up to 35 lbs. Ability to lift boxes, packages, or individual items during receiving, sorting and packing tasks. A significant amount of time on your feet for activities like unloading trucks, sorting packages in the warehouse, and moving around the work area to perform various tasks. Ability to bend and stoop frequently to pick up items, reach for objects on lower shelves, or place items in storage locations. Reaching for items on higher shelves or loading items onto trucks might require reaching overhead or extending your arms. Good manual dexterity is essential for handling packages, operating packing tools (like tape dispensers, shrink wrapper or strapping machines), and using a computer and barcode scanner.
