SAP EWM Solution Architect Location -Santa Clara,CA ( on demand travel) An SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) Solution Architect is responsible for the overall technical and functional design, integration, and strategic governance of warehouse operations within the SAP ecosystem. They bridge business supply chain strategies and technical enterprise architecture. 1. Solution Architecture & Strategic Design End-to-End Solution Blueprinting: Define the warehouse target operating model, physical/logical layout mapping (storage types, sections, bin structures), and inbound/outbound/internal process flows. Architecture Selection: Determine whether an Embedded EWM (on S/4HANA) or Decentralized EWM deployment model best suits business scale, high-volume processing needs, and system uptime requirements. Standardization vs. Customization: Establish the design framework maximizing out-of-the-box SAP EWM capabilities (Clean Core principle) and govern the approval/design of custom BADIs, enhancements, or RF screen developments. 2. Functional & Process Leadership Core Warehouse Process Design: Design robust workflows for: Inbound processing: Advanced Shipping Notifications (ASNs), yard check-in, quality inspection (QIE), deconsolidation, directed putaway strategies. Outbound processing: Wave management, picking strategies, packing, staging, dock scheduling, loading. Internal operations: Physical inventory, replenishment, slotting, rearrangement, scrap handling. Advanced EWM Capabilities: Architect advanced modules such as: Labor Management (LM): Engineered labor standards, processor tracking, performance reporting. Yard Logistics (YL) / Yard Management: Vehicle check-in/out, dock appointment scheduling, yard moves. Value-Added Services (VAS) & Kitting: Kit-to-stock and kit-to-order setups. Cross-Docking: Planned, opportunistic, and merchandise cross-docking. 3. Warehouse Automation & Integration (MFS / WCS) Material Flow System (MFS): Architect direct integration between SAP EWM and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) / automated equipment (conveyors, stacker cranes, sorters, AS/RS). Third-Party Subsystems: Design interfaces and messaging layers (IDocs, APIs, RFCs, Web Services) to connect with Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), and Pick-to-Light / Voice-Picking systems. Hardware & RF Integration: Define mobile RF scanning standards, barcode/RFID printing architectures, and SAP ITSmobile / SAP Fiori Mobile strategies. 4. Cross-Module & Enterprise Integration S/4HANA & ERP Integration: Ensure seamless alignment with core modules: SAP TM (Transportation Management): Shipping and receiving execution, Freight Order synchronization. SAP PP (Production Planning): Staging for production, backflushing, component receipt. SAP QM (Quality Management): Quality inspection engines and usage decisions. SAP SD/MM: Order-to-cash and procure-to-pay integration. Global Templates: Develop and govern scalable global deployment templates that accommodate local country and legal requirements. 5. Delivery Governance, Testing & Cutover Technical Oversight: Lead functional consultants, ABAP/Fiori developers, and integration engineers to ensure build quality matches architectural blueprints. Testing Strategy: Drive end-to-end integration testing (SIT), volume/stress testing under high peak throughput, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT). Cutover & Hypercare: Oversee data migration strategies (stock initialization, open orders, bin master data), shadow go-lives, ramp-up schedules, and post-go-live stabilization.
