Job Summary
The Retail Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing daily store operations, driving sales performance, and supporting the Store Manager in achieving business goals. Serving as Manager on Duty (MOD), this role ensures operational excellence, team accountability, policy compliance, and an exceptional customer experience. The Retail Operations Manager analyzes sales trends, supports strategic planning, and implements initiatives that maximize efficiency, profitability, and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Manager on Duty (MOD)
- Act as MOD during assigned shifts, making real-time operational decisions
- Support Store Manager in executing strategy, enforcing policies, and maintaining standards
- Coach, motivate, and hold employees accountable for sales and performance expectations
- Assist with hiring, training, development, and performance management
- Foster a positive, productive, and engaged team environment
Operations & Compliance
- Enforce company policies including cash handling, ID verification, safety, and loss prevention
- Ensure completion of opening/closing procedures, daily checklists, and facility standards
- Oversee timekeeping accuracy and attendance accountability
- Maintain the store operations binder and ensure procedures are followed correctly
- Identify and resolve facility issues, escalating when necessary
- Ensure team readiness with emergency procedures and troubleshooting tools
Sales, Merchandising & eCommerce
- Drive sales through strong customer service, merchandising, and promotion execution
- Analyze sales data to optimize product placement and inventory performance
- Identify slow-moving items and implement markdown, promotion, or sell-down strategies
- Execute floor sets, signage, and visual standards per company direction
- Utilize cross-merchandising to increase average ticket and units per sale
- Oversee timely and accurate eCommerce order fulfillment and issue resolution
Inventory & Loss Prevention
- Maintain inventory accuracy through counts, audits, and PO oversight
- Investigate discrepancies and negative inventory issues, implementing corrective action
- Ensure proper handling of damaged goods and recovery of vendor credits
- Train and coach employees on shrink reduction and loss prevention best practices
Financial & Payroll Oversight
- Manage cash handling, register balancing, and shortage investigations
- Monitor payroll to maintain labor costs at or below 20% of sales
- Enforce timekeeping policies and address violations consistently
Communication, Engagement & Community
- Assign and track tasks using Google Tasks and team communication tools
- Support employee incentive programs and engagement initiatives
- Assist with store events, community outreach, and vendor relationship management
- Collect customer feedback and product insights to support purchasing decisions

- Retail operations or leadership experience in a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership, organization, and accountability skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Comfortable analyzing sales data and implementing improvements
- Experience with compliance, cash handling, and loss prevention
- Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays
Work Environment
- Standing for extended periods; lifting up to 50 lbs
- Fast-paced, customer-facing retail setting
