ROAD & RAIL SERVICESRailcar Mechanic / Railroad Carman Road & Rail Services – Wausau, WI Pay: $25.00–$28.00 per hour, based on experience Job Type: Full-Time | Skilled Trades | Railroad Maintenance Put Your Mechanical & Welding Skills to Work Road & Rail Services is hiring a Railcar Mechanic / Railroad Carman for our Wausau, Wisconsin operation. If you have experience in welding, fabrication, industrial maintenance, heavy equipment repair, diesel mechanics, trailer repair, manufacturing maintenance, or another hands-on mechanical trade , your skills may transfer well to this position. Previous railroad experience is preferred, but it is not required. We are interested in mechanically skilled candidates who know how to work safely, use tools, troubleshoot problems, and complete quality repairs. What You'll Do As a Railcar Mechanic, you will help inspect, maintain, and repair freight railcars to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include: Inspect railcars for mechanical defects, structural damage, wear, and fatigue Identify repairs that can be completed within Road & Rail Services' authorized scope Complete approved mechanical repairs according to customer requirements and applicable AAR specifications Perform welding, cutting, grinding, fabrication, and component replacement as required Use hand and power tools including wrenches, ratchets, pry bars, grinders, and related repair equipment Operate company equipment such as tractors and all-terrain vehicles when authorized Maintain a clean and safe work area Follow all company, customer, and railroad safety procedures What We're Looking For Qualified candidates should have: A strong mechanical aptitude or skilled-trade background Welding experience is highly recommended Experience using basic hand and power tools Ability to work independently and as part of a repair team Strong attention to safety and repair quality Dependable attendance and willingness to work in an outdoor industrial environment Valid driver's license when required to operate company equipment Railcar experience is a plus, but don't let a lack of railroad experience stop you from applying. Candidates with transferable mechanical and welding experience are encouraged to apply. Physical & Work Environment This is an active, hands-on position. Employees must be able to regularly bend, squat, twist, walk, climb, and perform physical repair work throughout the shift. The position may require opening railcar end doors involving pulling force up to 90 lbs. and pushing force up to 68 lbs. Employees may occasionally climb ladders to heights exceeding 16 feet. Work is performed primarily outdoors in changing Wisconsin weather, including heat, cold, snow, rain, dust, and noisy industrial conditions. Why Join Road & Rail Services?
