Purchasing Manager

Allient Inc. is in growth mode and currently seeking a Purchasing Manager to join our team in Oshkosh, Wisconsin! The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading the site's purchasing and material procurement activities to support production requirements, inventory objectives, cost effectiveness, quality, and on-time delivery. This position oversees purchasing and related materials activities while working closely with Operations, Production, Engineering, Quality, Sales, and other departments to ensure material availability and support business needs. The Purchasing Manager develops and maintains supplier relationships, evaluates sourcing opportunities, supports forecasting and inventory planning, and provides leadership and direction to assigned employees. Apply now! Responsibilities: Lead and coordinate purchasing, material procurement, inventory control, production scheduling, cost quoting, and related materials activities. Manage the procurement of raw materials, components, vendor-produced work-in-process, operating supplies, and other materials required to support operations. Monitor inventory levels, stock status, material requirements, and purchasing systems to support production needs while maintaining appropriate inventory levels. Partner with Sales, Production, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to develop short- and long-range material forecasts and purchasing plans. Develop, evaluate, and maintain supplier relationships based on quality, cost, delivery, lead time, capacity, and service requirements. Identify and qualify new or alternate suppliers in collaboration with Quality and Engineering. Negotiate pricing, terms, lead times, and other purchasing requirements with suppliers. Coordinate subcontracted work, including identifying qualified suppliers, obtaining quotations, and ensuring schedule, quality, and service requirements are met. Support inventory management activities, including efforts related to excess and obsolete inventory. Participate in production and staff meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of departmental and company plans, policies, procedures, and improvement initiatives. Lead, train, develop, and evaluate assigned employees. Provide coaching and performance feedback and make recommendations regarding hiring, compensation, promotions, transfers, and other personnel matters. Partner with Human Resources and Operations leadership on employee relations, workplace safety, and compliance with applicable company policies and labor agreements. Maintain effective working relationships with suppliers and represent the company professionally in external business relationships. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent practical experience may be considered. Experience: Over 4 years up to and including 5 years of experience in purchasing or procurement within a manufacturing environment. Previous supervisory or management experience preferred. Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license required. APICS certification is a plus. Knowledge: Broad knowledge of material procurement, inventory control, warehousing, material specifications, and manufacturing practices. Skills: Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to exercise tact and sound judgment when working with employees, management, and suppliers. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Experience working with ERP systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Experience with quoting and costing.
