Purchasing Manager

Job Title: Purchasing Manager Department: Procurement / Supply Chain Position Summary The Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing the company’s purchasing activities, supplier relationships, inventory requirements, and procurement processes. This position ensures that materials, products, equipment, and services are purchased at the best possible quality, cost, and terms while supporting operational needs and maintaining appropriate inventory levels. The ideal candidate is a strategic and organized professional with strong negotiation skills, sound business judgment, and experience managing vendors and purchasing processes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with company goals and operational requirements. Identify, evaluate, and select reliable suppliers and vendors. Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, delivery schedules, and other purchasing agreements. Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and monitor vendor performance. Review purchase requisitions and approve purchase orders in accordance with company policies. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate purchasing activities to prevent shortages or excess inventory. Analyze purchasing trends, pricing, and market conditions to identify cost-saving opportunities. Obtain and evaluate competitive bids and quotes when appropriate. Ensure purchased goods and services meet established quality, quantity, and specification requirements. Track orders and follow up with suppliers regarding delivery schedules, shortages, damaged goods, or other issues. Work closely with Operations, Finance, Warehouse, Sales, and other departments to forecast purchasing needs. Maintain accurate purchasing records, vendor information, contracts, and pricing data. Monitor and report key purchasing metrics, including spend, savings, supplier performance, and inventory-related costs. Develop and maintain purchasing policies, procedures, and internal controls. Identify opportunities to improve procurement efficiency and reduce overall costs. Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations. Manage and develop purchasing staff, as applicable. Resolves grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers; assess, manage, and mitigate risks Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering or a related field preferred. 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience , with management or supervisory experience preferred. Strong negotiation, communication, and vendor-management skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze pricing, costs, and purchasing data. Experience with purchasing or ERP systems. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience in manufacturing industry. Experience managing low and high-volume purchasing and multiple suppliers. Knowledge of inventory management and demand forecasting. Experience with contract negotiations and strategic sourcing.
