Purchasing Manager Company: Peerless Electric Co. Ltd. Location: Cornwall, Ontario Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Work Arrangement: On-site preferred Reports To: President and/or Vice President of Peerless Electric Position Overview Peerless Electric is looking for an organized, reliable, and hands-on Purchasing Manager to manage day-to-day purchasing activities at our manufacturing facility in Cornwall, Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing the materials, components, and supplies needed for our lighting manufacturing operations, ensuring competitive pricing, reliable suppliers, and timely deliveries. This is a hands-on purchasing role that involves working closely with our Production Department, particularly the Director of Production, to support manufacturing schedules and material requirements. The Purchasing Manager reports directly to the President and/or Vice President of Peerless Electric and also handles purchasing requests from other departments as approved by company management. Key Responsibilities Purchasing & Procurement Manage daily purchasing activities for materials, electrical components, hardware, supplies, and services required for manufacturing operations. Obtain quotations, compare supplier offers, negotiate prices and delivery terms, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Prepare and issue purchase orders, verify order confirmations, and follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery. Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, pricing, and order documentation. Production & Inventory Support Work closely with the Director of Production to understand material requirements, production priorities, and delivery schedules. Monitor material availability, supplier lead times, and outstanding orders to help prevent production delays. Coordinate with production and other relevant departments to resolve shortages, incorrect deliveries, and material-related issues. Assist with inventory planning and replenishment to maintain appropriate stock levels while avoiding unnecessary purchases. Supplier Coordination & Internal Requests Establish and maintain good working relationships with existing and potential suppliers. Evaluate supplier pricing, reliability, delivery performance, and responsiveness. Coordinate with Engineering and Production when clarification of component specifications or approval of alternative materials is required. Process purchasing requests from other departments following management approval. Keep management informed of significant purchasing issues, delivery risks, and opportunities to improve costs or purchasing efficiency. Qualifications & Experience Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, or a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Good understanding of purchasing procedures, supplier quotations, purchase orders, and inventory-related processes. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple purchasing priorities. Good communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to maintain productive relationships with suppliers and colleagues. Ability to work independently, solve problems, and follow through on orders and commitments. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with purchasing or inventory management software. Ability to coordinate effectively with production personnel and company management. Additional Assets Experience purchasing electrical or electronic components, metal parts, aluminum extrusions, or other manufacturing materials. Familiarity with Bills of Materials (BOMs), production requirements, and manufacturing purchasing processes. Previous experience in the lighting or electrical manufacturing industry. Education or training in purchasing, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.
