Purchasing Coordinator
Markle Manufacturing Co. of San Antonio, Inc.Overview The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials, equipment, and services required for structural steel fabrication and construction projects. This position ensures material availability, cost competitiveness, quality compliance, and on-time delivery to support production schedules and project deadlines. Key Responsibilities Procurement & Purchasing Purchase structural steel, plate, tubing, grating, fasteners, welding supplies, paint, hardware, and fabrication consumables. Obtain and evaluate vendor quotes to ensure best pricing, quality, and delivery. Issue purchase orders and maintain accurate purchasing records. Monitor market pricing trends for steel and related materials. Develop and maintain relationships with steel mills, service centers, distributors, and suppliers. Inventory Management Track inventory levels and coordinate replenishment of stock materials. Verify material receipts against purchase orders and packing slips. Assist with inventory counts and material audits. Minimize excess inventory while ensuring production requirements are met. Vendor Management Evaluate supplier performance related to quality, pricing, and delivery. Resolve discrepancies involving shipments, invoices, shortages, and damaged materials. Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms. Project Support Collaborate with Estimating, Engineering, Project Management, and Production departments to ensure required materials are available for fabrication and erection schedules. Review project specifications and drawings to identify purchasing requirements. Expedite critical materials to prevent production delays. Documentation & Compliance Maintain purchasing files, vendor certifications, mill test reports, and material traceability documentation. Ensure purchased materials meet company standards, customer requirements, and project specifications. Process and reconcile vendor invoices with accounting. Qualifications Education Associate's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent work experience considered. Experience 3+ years of purchasing experience, preferably in structural steel fabrication, construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments. Experience purchasing carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, welding supplies, and industrial materials preferred. Skills Strong negotiation and vendor management skills. Ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings and specifications. Knowledge of steel grades, shapes, and fabrication processes. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Tekla Power Fab Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities. Physical Requirements Ability to walk through fabrication and warehouse areas. Ability to inspect incoming materials and verify quantities. Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods. Performance Expectations Maintain cost-effective purchasing practices.
