Position Overview We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to join our Purchasing Department. The Purchasing Agent will support purchasing, fulfilment, and inventory management of specialty appliances for both our retail customers and multi-family/builder projects. This role focuses on the full buying cycle from demand analysis and supplier ordering through to on-time fulfilment and inventory optimization. You will ensure the right products are purchased at the right cost and delivered on time, while maintaining accurate stock levels and strong supplier partnerships that support exceptional service to Midland Appliance clientele. Responsibilities: Analyze sales, forecasts, and inventory levels to determine purchasing needs, quantities, and timing. Source, negotiate, and place purchase orders with suppliers, securing competitive pricing, terms, and delivery commitments. Manage supplier relationships, performance, and issue resolution. Manage new product introductions, model transitions, and discontinued products. Manage purchase orders from placement through delivery and receiving, ensuring accuracy and appropriate lead times. Track orders, communicate ETAs and backorders, and proactively address delays. Coordinate with suppliers, logistics, and warehouse teams to support on-time delivery. Maintain appropriate inventory levels and safety stock based on sales trends and project requirements. Allocate and reallocate inventory for retail and multi-family projects. Identify and address shortages, excess, slow-moving, and discontinued inventory. Investigate inventory discrepancies and maintain accurate ERP and inventory records. Prepare inventory reports and recommend corrective actions. Partner with Sales, Logistics, Warehouse, Finance, and Accounts Payable to support timely fulfilment and resolve issues. Participate in forecasting meetings and provide updates on inventory, backorders, supplier lead times, and product transitions. Experience in purchasing, buying, inventory management, or a related role. Strong understanding of purchasing processes, purchase orders, and inventory control. Experience with ERP or inventory management systems. Strong analytical, negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Collaborative, customer-focused, and able to build effective supplier and internal relationships. Self-motivated, accountable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales, inventory, and forecast data. Strong negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Collaborative, customer-focused, and able to build effective supplier and internal relationships. Self-motivated, accountable, and able to work independently. Experience: 1–3 years of experience in a buying, purchasing, or inventory management role (appliance, home goods, or specialty retail experience is preferred).
