Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Production Scheduler & Material Planner to bridge the gap between customer demand, production capacity, and inventory availability. In this dual role, you will create daily/weekly production schedules and ensure all raw materials and components are available on time to support those schedules. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and can balance competing priorities—on-time delivery, inventory investment, and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities Production Scheduling Duties Develop, maintain, and publish a rolling master production schedule (MPS) for production lines / work centers based on sales orders, forecasts, and inventory targets. Sequence production runs to minimize changeover time and optimize equipment utilization. Monitor work order progress daily; identify and resolve schedule deviations caused by downtime, quality issues, or labor shortages. Collaborate with maintenance to schedule preventive maintenance without impacting critical customer orders. Lead daily production meetings to align shop floor supervisors on priorities and schedule changes. Report weekly on schedule adherence, on-time delivery, and production efficiency (OEE). Material Planning Duties Run MRP (Material Requirements Planning) to calculate net requirements for raw materials, components, and packaging. Generate and release purchase requisitions and purchase orders based on lead times, lot sizes, and safety stock levels. Monitor inventory levels daily; maintain reorder points, min/max quantities, and safety stock parameters in the ERP system. Coordinate with suppliers to confirm order acknowledgements, ship dates, and resolve delivery issues. Expedite or defer purchase orders as the production schedule changes to prevent stockouts or excess inventory. Lead cycle counting efforts and investigate root causes of inventory discrepancies. Combined / Integrated Duties Release work orders to the shop floor only after confirming material availability (kitting or bin checks). Reconcile mismatches between the production schedule and material availability; reschedule production or escalate shortages as needed. Maintain item master data integrity: lead times, lot sizes, MOQ, scrap factors, and planning time fences. Participate in S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) meetings to align demand forecasts with capacity and material plans. Manage slow-moving and obsolete (SLOB) inventory, recommending dispositions. Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, or related field preferred. 3+ years of combined experience in production scheduling AND material planning in a manufacturing environment (e.g., automotive, electronics, food & beverage, medical devices, or industrial equipment). Experience with make-to-order, make-to-stock, or engineer-to-order environments. Technical Skills Proficient with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Infor, Epicor, or NetSuite). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, IF statements, basic formulas). Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts (kanban, pull systems, visual management) is a plus. APICS CPIM or CSCP certification preferred but not required. Soft Skills Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis.
