Product Engineer
Layco Electric InnovationsAbout American Power Innovations American Power Innovations designs and builds custom-engineered electrical power distribution equipment for operations where uptime is not optional. Our Tulsa, Oklahoma plant produces power distribution centers (PDCs), motor control centers (MCCs), switch racks, low- and medium-voltage VFD skids, and custom PLC control panels — engineered, assembled, tested, and commissioned under one roof. The company carries more than 80 years of power distribution heritage. Formerly Layco Electric Innovations, we rebranded as American Power Innovations in 2025 to reflect a period of significant growth and to reinforce our commitment to American manufacturing and domestically sourced materials. Our customers span energy and utilities, data centers, chemical processing, defense, and municipal infrastructure — industries in which a single equipment failure carries real consequences. Our culture is built on four commitments: Customer First – Always, Our People – Our Power, Accountability for Self, and Collaboration at the Highest Level. We are a hands-on organization that values problem solvers, craftsmanship, and people who take ownership of the work in front of them. Position Summary The Product Design Engineer facilitates the design of modular power distribution centers (PDCs) with the support of a mechanical engineer, developing the electrical portion of a design that includes electrical drawings, mechanical drawings, calculation justification reports, and process procedures. Work with sales or customers to determine product specifications and whether new or modified products or assemblies are required. Design and develop products, including analysis with calculations as needed to meet specifications. Plan the PDC layout in general assembly drawings and develop interconnecting diagrams of the equipment inside, based on customer specifications and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements. Create raceway/conductor schedules that capture wire interconnections, routing pathways, and conduit sizing, considering NEC requirements. Design custom off-the-shelf panelboard layouts that align with electrical needs, considering NEC requirements. Work with fellow engineers and, when needed, direct their activities, communicate, and call meetings to update projects and give expected completion timelines. Assign and maintain part numbers, new drawings, and existing drawings along with revisions, and enter data into the MRP system.
