Procurement Assistant / Plant Expeditor
American Equipment MfgAmerican Equipment Manufacturing is growing and seeking a motivated, hands-on Procurement Assistant / Plant Expediter to join our team. This position plays an important role in keeping production moving by supporting procurement activities, coordinating material requirements, monitoring production schedules, and communicating with suppliers and internal departments. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and able to take initiative to keep materials, projects, and production schedules on track. Responsibilities Assist with purchasing materials, components, and supplies required for manufacturing. Monitor production schedules and coordinate material requirements to support upcoming jobs and deadlines. Schedule and track long-lead materials based on manufacturing needs. Request and evaluate supplier quotes for materials, freight, and specialty items. Maintain ongoing communication with suppliers regarding pricing, availability, lead times, and delivery schedules. Identify opportunities to reduce material and purchasing costs while maintaining quality and availability. Monitor minimum and maximum inventory levels and assist with maintaining appropriate stock levels. Review internal material requirement documents and determine purchasing needs. Create material take-offs from drawings and prepare accurate bills of materials. Enter and maintain bills of materials and inventory information within company accounting/inventory software. Track the progress of materials and production orders across departments. Work closely with department supervisors to confirm project status, priorities, and expected completion dates. Help prioritize material and production needs based on manufacturing deadlines. Follow up on delayed materials, purchase orders, and production items to help prevent scheduling disruptions. Identify workflow or material-related issues and communicate them to management. Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, and project documentation. Qualifications Previous experience in procurement, purchasing, inventory, expediting, or manufacturing preferred. At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel . Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organization, follow-up, and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Basic math and geometry skills, including the ability to calculate measurements, square footage, and circumference. Ability to read and interpret material lists, bills of materials, and basic manufacturing drawings. Understanding of minimum/maximum inventory principles. Ability to work independently while also coordinating effectively with multiple departments. Preferred Knowledge Experience or familiarity with industrial and manufacturing materials such as: Plate steel Structural shapes Pipe Valves Fittings Specialty fabricated or purchased components Freight and material transportation Experience creating material take-offs, bills of materials, purchase orders, or supplier quote requests is highly desirable.
