Appointment Length 12 months or less Hiring Range $30,201 About this Position The Langston University Police Department is now accepting applications for a full-time dispatch position. The Dispatcher is responsible for simultaneously operating a multi-channel radio console and a multi-line telephone, while maintaining computer-aided dispatch systems and other computer systems. Responsible for receiving, coordinating and disseminating critical information from various sources and maintaining radio contact with mobile/field units to monitor response, progress and any needed support. This position works in the communications center of the police station which is responsible for answering emergency calls. Required Qualifications High School/GED Ability to remain calm in stressful situations Multitasking Strong communication skills Maintain and file appropriate paperwork Ability to assess, relay, and record information quickly Knowledge of technology Basic computer Literacy Flexible schedule Strong work ethic / Dependability Ability to attend mandatory classes Proper radio and telephone etiquette Maintain confidentiality regarding all parties involved (students and departments) Ability to differentiate between office and home life Working Conditions This position is based in a fast-paced, office environment using phones, computers, and radio systems. Dispatchers work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support 24/7 operations. The role requires long periods of sitting, multitasking, and maintaining focus under pressure. Clear communication, quick decision-making, and emotional resilience are essential. Occasional high-stress situations may occur, especially when handling urgent or emergency requests.
