Plant Production Scheduler
General ConvertingJob Title: Plant Production Shift Supervisor Role Summary: The Plant Production Shift Supervisor coordinates front-line manufacturing operations across a continuous, fast-paced 24/7 environment to ensure the safe and high-quality production of folding cartons. Manage shift-level manufacturing operations—specifically across cutting (die-cutting), printing, finishing, and folding-gluing departments—to hit safety, quality, and output goals. Positioned between plant leadership and floor crews, this role drives uninterrupted asset utilization by managing rotating shifts across printing, high-speed die-cutting, and complex finishing/gluing lines. The supervisor is directly accountable for maintaining strict safety standards, facilitating smooth shift handovers, minimizing paperboard scrap, and executing rapid troubleshooting to prevent costly machine downtime. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager. Key 24/7 Operations Elements Shift Handovers: Manage structured communication to ensure seamless transitions of running jobs, maintenance updates, and safety alerts between rotating shifts. Schedule Coverage: Coordinate shift coverage, monitor attendance, and manage oncall rotations to maintain optimal staffing levels across weekends and holidays. Asset Optimization: Maximize equipment uptime on continuous runs through realtime bottleneck identification and immediate escalation of mechanical issues. Key Responsibilities Shift Leadership: Direct daily operations for the shift, allocating staff to press, cutting, and glue lines to balance workflow and meet delivery schedules. Safety Enforcement: Lead daily safety briefings, housekeeping guidelines, and ensure OSHA and plant safety regulations are strictly followed. Quality Control: Monitor folding carton specs (creasing, gluing integrity, print alignment) to minimize scrap and ensure finished goods meet customer standards. Team Development: Coach machine operators and packinspectors, evaluate training needs, and deliver performance feedback. Process Improvement: Use shift metrics and lean manufacturing techniques to trace bottlenecks and improve line uptime. Other Responsibilities Read and comprehend the schedule to determine the sequence of production. Interpret job order specification sheet to determine needs for gluing. Review and verify the preprint label information is correct prior to use. Ability to review and interpret the production map Perform proper procedure in performing a line purge. Make ready and set up the gluer in accordance with job order specification. Setup for specialty gluing applications using glue extrusion systems Ensure proper case packing is correct to job specification and fit for end use. Verify glued cartons meet job requirements Run production to optimize throughput Perform and document quality audits of production to ensure quality, adjust gluer as necessary Complete paperwork for production tracking Diagnoses and troubleshooting mechanical gluer issues. Ability to direct crew Use a hand truck to move cut loads to gluer Other duties as assigned Physical Requirements Mobility: Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods on concrete manufacturing floors. Agility: Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and stooping required to inspect machinery and packaging lines. Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Posture: Endurance to transition dynamically between standing, walking, and sitting throughout a 12hour rotating shift. Qualifications Experience: 3 to 7 years of manufacturing supervisory experience, ideally within folding carton, corrugated, or printed packaging converting. Technical Skills: Familiarity with sheetfed presses, diecutters, or foldergluer operations. Education: High school diploma required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline is a plus. Flexibility: Availability to work specific shifts (frequently 2nd or 3rd shift in highdemand pack…
