Position Overview: We are seeking a dependable, safety-focused Freight Handling Technician to support the movement and preparation of freight within our warehouse and loading operations. You will inspect incoming shipments, move freight to designated locations, assist with loading and unloading, and prepare cargo for outbound transportation. Working with warehouse personnel, drivers, and dispatch staff, you will help ensure that freight is handled carefully, recorded accurately, and ready for its next scheduled movement. This is a hands-on freight-handling role, not a vehicle maintenance or commercial driving position. Key Responsibilities: Load and unload freight from trucks and trailers according to approved procedures and assigned instructions. Verify shipment labels, quantities, destinations, and identifying information against receiving or shipping documents. Inspect cargo, pallets, and packaging for visible damage, instability, missing labels, or other concerns. Report shortages, damage, and discrepancies promptly and follow instructions for holding affected shipments pending review. Move freight between receiving, storage, cross-dock, and outbound staging areas. Sort and consolidate LTL shipments while maintaining clear identification and separation between consignments. Stage outbound freight by destination, route, or dispatch schedule. Follow approved loading instructions for cargo placement, stacking, weight distribution, and unloading sequence. Assist with palletizing, wrapping, labeling, and applying protective packaging materials. Use approved cargo securement materials only within the scope of assigned training and authorization. Record freight movements, counts, storage locations, and handling exceptions using the company’s designated system or paperwork. Follow documented procedures for fragile, high-value, or temperature-sensitive cargo. Coordinate with warehouse and dispatch personnel to communicate shipment readiness and potential delays. Perform pre-use checks on assigned handling equipment and report defects without attempting unauthorized repairs. Keep loading areas, walkways, and emergency access routes clear. Stop work and notify a supervisor when freight condition, equipment, or instructions present a safety concern. Required Qualifications: Strong attention to detail when checking freight, labels, and shipment records. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, handling symbols, and safety procedures. Basic counting and recordkeeping skills. Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a team. Dependability, punctuality, and a careful approach to handling customer goods. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour Benefits: 401(k) Dental insurance Health insurance Vision insurance Work Location: In person
