Planning Lead, Server Racks and Components
MetaMeta is seeking a Director, Hardware Supply Chain Planning to serve as a senior individual contributor for server rack and component planning across Meta’s infrastructure supply chain. This is an individual contributor role with no people management responsibilities. This role owns the technical direction of how we plan, constrain, and commit tens of billions of dollars of server rack and component supply annually, balancing capacity, flexibility, supply capability, and cost, from base components to finished racks, in an environment of continual product introduction. We do this primarily by building software and mathematical optimization models, not manual planning. The person in this role is the senior technical lead whom cross-functional leadership trusts and from whom the planning team takes technical direction. They set the methodology, arbitrate the hard modeling and prioritization calls, steer supply feasibility runs and significant plan revisions end to end, and personally carry out the analyses that leadership relies on to make multi-billion dollar commitments. Influence here comes from technical credibility and judgment rather than reporting lines: this role routinely aligns Director- and VP-level partners across Infra, Sourcing, Finance, and Hardware Engineering on a single plan of record. This is a high-ambiguity, high-leverage role at the center of Meta’s AI and data center scaling strategy: millions of servers, gigawatts of capacity, and current-generation silicon. If you are passionate about optimizing complex systems, working with large datasets and supply chains, and driving company-level business impact as a technologist rather than a manager, we encourage you to apply. Planning Lead, Server Racks and Components Responsibilities: Serve as the senior technical authority for server rack and component supply planning: own the planning methodology, the models behind it, and the definition of what a credible plan is Steer supply feasibility runs and significant plan revisions end to end: frame the scenarios, set the constraints and prioritization logic, arbitrate the trade-offs, and stand behind the answer with leadership Deeply understand end-to-end planning processes, methodologies and data, and personally own delivery of an executable and optimized supply chain plan for racks and components Critique the demand signals curated by upstream teams and build the anticipatory demand view for racks and components through mathematical modeling and business judgement, rather than treating the incoming signal as given Identify capacity and supply chain risk proactively, and build the mathematical models behind simulation and optimization studies of demand projections, scenario planning, and gap closure analysis, driving the supply flexibility and optionality strategy that best balances delivery of required capacity, cost, and risk Design and build the software and optimization systems that replace manual planning, contributing code yourself and partnering with software engineers to scale it, and set the technical standards, patterns, and quality bar that the broader planning team builds to Act as the final technical escalation point for critical supply chain exceptions in racks and components: diagnose the root cause, decide on the recovery, and ensure the fix lands in the model and the process rather than in a one-off spreadsheet Partner across Infra - platform teams, server hardware engineering, network engineering, data center engineering, operations, capacity planning, network planning, data center planning, energy - to find the most optimal ways to build and scale our infrastructure Partner with Sourcing and suppliers on supply capability, lead times, commitment structures, and flexibility, translating commercial constructs into planning logic and vice versa Partner with Finance to balance cost efficiency with technical, product, and supply chain considerations, and to connect the supply plan to budget, cap…
