Part-Time Building Materials Estimator / Counter Sales Pay: $18–$22/hour depending on experience We are a family-owned building materials and lumber yard looking for a dependable, experienced person to join our team on a part-time basis, approximately 20–30 hours per week. The primary responsibility of this position will be estimating and preparing material quotes for customers and contractors. This includes reading building plans, completing lumber and material takeoffs, figuring door takeoffs, and preparing quotes for pole barns and other construction projects. This position will also serve as a backup counter salesperson. When one of our regular counter employees is out, you will be expected to step in and handle counter sales, customer questions, phone calls, orders, and other normal lumber-yard sales duties. Primary Responsibilities Read and understand residential and light commercial building plans Perform accurate lumber and building-material takeoffs Figure door and window takeoffs Prepare pole barn and other construction material quotes Communicate with contractors and customers to clarify project needs Help with pricing and material selection Answer customer and contractor questions Work the sales counter when needed Take phone orders and assist customers with material selections Learn our products, pricing, and ordering procedures Help maintain accurate quotes and orders What We’re Looking For Construction or building-material experience preferred Experience reading construction plans and doing material takeoffs is highly preferred Experience with lumber, framing, roofing, doors, or pole barns is a plus Must be comfortable working with contractors and customers Must be organized and detail-oriented Must be able to work independently and accurately Must be willing to learn our products and systems Must be dependable and willing to help cover the counter when needed Schedule This is a part-time position, generally 20–30 hours per week. The schedule can be somewhat flexible depending on the workload. However, flexibility is important because this person will also be one of our backup employees when a regular counter employee is out. Additional hours may be available when needed.
