SMS Equipment is seeking an Operations Manager, Remanufacturing. This is a highly influential leadership role, accountable for the performance, safety, and engagement of approximately 200 employees. The Reman Department is a critical part of SMS’s Mining Division and plays a key role in delivering reliable rebuilt component solutions that support customer uptime, operational continuity, and supports the value proposition of Komatsu Mining Equipment.

As the senior operational leader, you will oversee end-to-end remanufacturing performance—production planning and execution, quality assurance, safety, labor and resource allocation, and continuous improvement. You will champion SMS Equipment’s commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and high-quality customer service while leading both direct and indirect teams. This role ensures that remanufactured components meet both internal standards and customer expectations, while maximizing productivity and minimizing costs.

Location: Acheson, AB
Work Arrangement: Fixed on site – working 5 days per week from the branch.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day.
The facility does operate on a 24/7 basis and may require on call for emergencies.
Occasional travel may be required to other branches or supplier sites.

What You’ll Do

  • Safety Leadership - Ensures all department activities are conducted in full compliance with safety, health and environmental standards, company rules and processes (policies, CP’s, SWP’s, JHA’s) and other applicable legislation.
  • Financial Management - Responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day activities of the Reman operations and aligning with the objectives and directives of the General Manager, Reman.
  • Operational Excellence - Drives production output and maximizes performance as it relates to profitability, cost reduction, workflow, productivity, people engagement, and safety.
  • Customer Relationships - Ensure effective delivery of service and products to all levels of internal and external customers.
  • Leadership - Promotes a positive labour/employee relations climate and teamwork at all levels of the Reman organization.
  • Business Development/Continuous Improvement - Leads the development and management of SMS in-house Reman/Component programs.
  • Projects - Performs other duties and projects as required by General Manager, Reman and Senior Management.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate will bring at least 7 years of experience in managing operations in the heavy equipment or manufacturing/re-manufacturing environment and a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience at the mid-level manager level (leader of leaders). Other qualifications include:

  • An undergraduate degree in business, engineering, or a related technical field; equivalence experience will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of operational management principles, including cost control, workforce planning, inventory management, and customer service.
  • Proven ability to lead high‑performing cross‑functional teams through change and evolving business needs.
  • Experience leading a workforce of up to 200 employees in a critical operations environment within an SMS mining organization.
  • Strong customer‑focused mindset with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build trust across diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success solving complex operational challenges using experience, precedent, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment where both proactive and reactive problem solving are required.
