Operations Manager – Drayage & Port Operations

Location: Houston, TX Job Type: Full-Time Company: Best Bay Trucking Compensation: Competitive Base Salary + Performance Bonus About the Role Best Bay Trucking is seeking an experienced Operations Manager – Drayage & Port Operations to lead and grow our Houston operation. We are looking for someone with strong drayage and intermodal experience, deep knowledge of the Houston market, and established relationships within the local transportation community . The ideal candidate understands the day-to-day realities of port operations and knows how to build reliable capacity through owner-operators and carrier partnerships. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can effectively manage daily operations while also helping us grow our presence, strengthen market relationships, and expand our owner-operator and carrier network throughout Houston . Key Responsibilities Lead day-to-day Houston drayage and port operations Manage dispatch, container movements, appointments, empty returns, chassis coordination, and operational exceptions Maintain strong knowledge of Port Houston terminals, rail ramps, container yards, warehouses, and distribution centers Recruit, develop, and maintain strong relationships with owner-operators and local/regional carriers Build a dependable owner-operator and carrier network capable of supporting existing business and future growth Develop and maintain strong relationships throughout the Houston transportation and logistics community Work closely with customers, drivers, owner-operators, carriers, dispatchers, and internal teams Monitor service levels, driver and carrier productivity, operational costs, and overall market performance Resolve operational issues quickly and proactively Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, capacity, service, and profitability Support new customer implementations and significant volume increases Help develop scalable processes as the Houston operation continues to grow Ensure operations are conducted safely and in compliance with company and regulatory requirements What We’re Looking For 5+ years of drayage/intermodal transportation experience preferred Prior operations management, terminal management, or similar leadership experience strongly preferred Strong working knowledge of the Houston drayage market and Port Houston Existing relationships with owner-operators, trucking companies, carriers, terminals, warehouses, rail facilities, and other local industry partners are highly desirable Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain owner-operators and carrier capacity Strong understanding of containerized freight, port operations, chassis, appointments, demurrage/detention, and empty-return processes Ability to manage a high-volume, fast-paced operation Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Comfortable being hands-on and taking ownership when operational challenges arise Commercial mindset with a strong understanding of cost, productivity, customer service, and profitability Compensation & Performance Bonus Best Bay offers a competitive base salary based on experience, plus a performance-based bonus opportunity .
