Operations Director

Job Summary: The Operations Director provides strategic leadership and oversight for the operational infrastructure that supports Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center. As a member of the Leadership Team, this position ensures the effective management of facilities, grounds, food service, housekeeping, technology systems, and operational resources that serve more than 12,000 participants annually. Operations is at the heart of Eagle Bluff. Every meal served, building maintained, and system functioning well contributes directly to the participant experience and organizational success. The Operations Director serves as the connective link between departments, ensuring Eagle Bluff’s campus, facilities, and operational systems remain safe, welcoming, efficient, and aligned with the organization’s strategic goals. This position requires a highly organized and proactive leader who excels at systems thinking, project management, staff development, budgeting, and long-term planning. The ideal candidate can balance strategic priorities with day-to-day operational demands, make sound decisions regarding resource allocation, and lead teams through both routine operations and unexpected challenges. Essential Functions:Departmental Leadership – 40% Provide leadership and support to the Maintenance Manager, Housekeeping Manager, and Food Service Manager. Ensure departments are effectively staffed, trained, equipped, and aligned with organizational priorities. Support managers in budgeting, purchasing, inventory management, staffing, professional development, and operational planning. Collaborate with department managers to identify priorities, allocate resources, and resolve operational challenges. Ensure buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles, and guest accommodations are maintained to support a safe, welcoming, and high-quality experience. Oversee long-term facility maintenance plans, capital improvements, and asset management systems. When requested, coordinate with education staff on upkeep, repair, and enhancement of program areas, including ropes courses, trails, cultural sites, and outdoor learning environments. Oversee selection, coordination, and management of contractors and service providers,determining when work should be completed in-house versus outsourced based on cost, expertise, capacity, safety, and timelines. Serve as primary coordinator for organizational technology systems, including phone, internet, and equipment vendors and leases. Operations & Project Management – 35% Oversee day-to-day operational functions of Eagle Bluff’s campus, ensuring facilities and support services meet the needs of participants, guests, and staff. Manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, balancing planned initiatives with emergent repairs and operational needs. Develop and manage the operational and capital budgets to ensure responsible stewardship of resources. Leadership & Strategic Planning – 15% Serve as a member of Eagle Bluff’s Leadership Team, contributing to organizational decision-making, strategic planning, budgeting, and long-term sustainability efforts. Anticipate future operational needs and proactively plan for facility, infrastructure, staffing, and equipment investments. Collaborate with the Executive Director to align operational functions and infrastructure with organizational goals and priorities. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, safety, collaboration, and exceptional service. Develop operational systems and processes that improve efficiency, communication, and organizational effectiveness. Support board committees or organizational initiatives as requested. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management – 10% Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, health, safety, environmental, and other applicable regulations.
