Ocean Import Specialist

Job Summary The Ocean Import Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing international ocean freight shipments from overseas origins to final delivery destinations. This position ensures shipments move efficiently, documentation is accurate, customs clearance requirements are met, and customers receive timely updates. This is an onsite, office-based position. Key Responsibilities Coordinate ocean import shipments from origin to final destination. Communicate with overseas agents, ocean carriers, customs brokers, truckers, and customers. Prepare and review import documentation. Track vessel arrivals and monitor shipment status. Coordinate customs clearance with customs brokers. Arrange container pickup, drayage, and final delivery. Monitor freight charges, demurrage, detention, and storage fees. Follow up on shipment delays and resolve operational issues. Update shipment information in the freight forwarding system. Provide excellent customer service and shipment status updates. Review invoices and ensure accurate billing. Maintain compliance with U.S. Customs and import regulations. Qualifications 1–3 years of ocean import or freight forwarding experience preferred. Knowledge of international shipping procedures. Understanding of import documentation and customs clearance. Familiarity with FCL and LCL shipments. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to multitask and meet deadlines. Computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of CargoWise One (CW) freight forwarding software is a plus.
