Ocean Export/Import Manager | New York, NY | Salary up to $100,000 This is a hands-on management position responsible for ensuring the efficient movement of ocean freight, maintaining strong customer relationships, and providing leadership and direction to the operations team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in U.S. ocean freight forwarding, with experience across both import and export operations and the ability to manage day-to-day operations while driving service, efficiency, and compliance. Professional growth and career development opportunities. Key Responsibilities Manage and oversee ocean import and export operations from booking through final delivery. Lead, mentor, and develop the ocean operations team. Monitor shipments, ensuring timely and accurate handling of documentation and cargo. Manage carrier bookings, bills of lading, arrival notices, delivery orders, and other ocean documentation. Oversee FCL and LCL shipments and coordinate with carriers, terminals, truckers, customs brokers, and overseas offices/agents. Ensure compliance with U.S. import/export regulations and company procedures. Resolve operational issues, delays, and customer escalations efficiently. Maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, vendors, and international partners. Monitor team performance, productivity, and service levels. Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and profitability. Work closely with sales and management to support customer retention and business growth. Ensure accurate and timely invoicing and documentation. Provide regular operational updates and reporting to senior management. Requirements 5+ years of U.S. ocean freight forwarding experience, with strong knowledge of both import and export operations. Previous management or supervisory experience within an international freight forwarder. Strong understanding of ocean freight documentation, processes, and U.S. regulations. Experience with FCL and LCL shipments. Strong knowledge of steamship lines, terminals, trucking, customs clearance, and delivery processes. Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and leadership abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced freight forwarding environment. Experience with freight forwarding software such as CargoWise is preferred.
