Position Summary Reporting to the Patient Services Manager, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) role will support and enhance an interprofessional team model inclusive of the NP scope of practice within the Perinatal and Paediatric Program. The Perinatal and Paediatrics Program consists of a labour, delivery and postpartum unit, including an outpatient clinic and operating rooms, a level 2a Neonatal Intensive Care unit, a Paediatrics unit and an outpatient hyperbilirubinemia clinic. The primary role of the Perinatal and Paediatric NP will include Most Responsible Provider (MRP) for well-newborns on the postpartum unit and outpatient well-newborn follow-up in the hyperbilirubinemia clinic. Secondary roles may include roles within NP-MRP post-acute team and outpatient areas as assigned. As an NP-MRP at Quinte Health, you will: Lead Patient Care as MRP: Take on the role of Most Responsible Provider (MRP), where you will have the authority to admit, discharge, and manage patients independently in a hospital setting. You’ll be at the forefront of patient care, guiding them through every step of their hospital journey. Be supported by access to comprehensive hospital resources. Collaborate in an Interdisciplinary Team consisting of paediatricians, obstetricians, midwives, RNs, RPNs, UCCs and social work' Required Master’s degree in nursing. Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in the Extended Class (RN-EC) A minimum of 3 years' experience, Experience with newborns and new families is preferred but not mandatory. Able to prescribe controlled substances as authorized by CNO. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or willing to obtain within 3 months and Basic Life Support (BLS) Must have a satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check. Duties Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and follow-up care for well newborns as the Most Responsible Provider (MRP). Perform newborn admission, physical examinations, discharge assessments, and ongoing clinical management in accordance with CPS guidelines and organizational standards. Identify and manage neonatal health concerns, including feeding challenges, hyperbilirubinemia, weight loss, infection risk, and other factors affecting newborn well-being. Order and interpret diagnostic investigations, develop care plans, and facilitate referrals and consultations as required. Provide education, counseling, and support to parents and caregivers regarding newborn health and safe discharge planning. Collaborate with the interprofessional team to ensure coordinated, high-quality, family-centered neonatal care. Complete clinical documentation, discharge summaries, and care transitions to community healthcare providers. Deliver follow-up care through newborn and bilirubin clinic services and support continuity of care following discharge.
