Summary Description of Position The MRO Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory of maintenance, repair, and operating supplies required to support plant operations. This position ensures timely procurement of materials, equipment, parts, and services while maintaining cost effectiveness, quality standards, and vendor relationships. The MRO Buyer works closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Finance teams to support production uptime and continuous improvement initiatives. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager. Major Responsibility Areas and Duties Source and purchase MRO materials, parts, equipment, and services to support facility and production operations. Process purchase requisitions and issue purchase orders in accordance with company policies. Obtain competitive quotes and negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and service agreements with suppliers. Monitor open purchase orders and proactively follow up on overdue shipments. Expedite critical materials to minimize equipment downtime and production interruptions. Ensure purchased items meet quality, technical, and operational requirements. Maintain appropriate inventory levels of maintenance spare parts and consumable supplies. Monitor usage trends and adjust stocking levels to optimize inventory investment. Conduct inventory reviews and cycle counts as needed. Work with Maintenance personnel to identify critical spare parts requirements. Assist in reducing inventory obsolescence and excess inventory. Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and service providers. Evaluate supplier performance related to quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness. Assist in identifying and qualifying alternative suppliers to mitigate supply risks. Support vendor performance improvement initiatives. Identify opportunities for cost savings through supplier negotiations, inventory optimization, and standardization of parts. Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on purchasing processes and inventory management. Analyze purchasing data and provide recommendations for cost reduction and efficiency improvements. Support annual budgeting efforts related to MRO expenditures. Maintain accurate purchasing records within internal systems. Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and procedures. Assist with audits by providing purchasing and inventory documentation as required. Adhere to all company safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Minimum Requirements and Qualifications Bachelors degree in Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Operations Management, or related field preferred. Minimum of 3 years of purchasing, procurement, inventory control, or supply chain experience required, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Experience purchasing MRO materials, industrial equipment, or maintenance spare parts required. Experience with MaintainX CMMS system preferred Strong knowledge of purchasing principles, inventory management, and supplier negotiations. Understanding of maintenance and manufacturing operations. Ability to read vendor catalogs, technical specifications, and parts documentation. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational and time management abilities with attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
