POSITION SUMMARY The Production Control Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating production activities within a fast-paced manufacturing environment to ensure customer orders are completed efficiently and on time. This position plays a critical role in supporting On-Time Delivery (OTD) by maintaining an accurate production schedule, monitoring job progress, balancing production priorities and capacity, and proactively identifying potential delays or bottlenecks. The Production Control Planner works closely with Production Supervisors, Department Leads, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and other departments to ensure production priorities are clearly communicated and the flow of work remains aligned with customer requirements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, proactive, and able to make sound decisions while managing changing priorities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop, maintain, and adjust production schedules based on customer due dates, machine capacity, material availability, and current production priorities. Monitor production progress and work-in-process (WIP) to ensure jobs remain on schedule. Prioritize and sequence jobs to support customer delivery requirements and improve On-Time Delivery (OTD). Monitor machine and department capacity and identify potential scheduling conflicts, bottlenecks, or production constraints. Work closely with Department Leads and Production Supervisors to understand machine availability, current production status, upcoming work, and potential delays. Track jobs from release through completion and proactively communicate changes or concerns that may impact customer delivery dates. Identify late or at-risk orders and work with the appropriate teams to develop solutions and recovery plans. Coordinate with Purchasing and other departments regarding material availability and requirements that may affect the production schedule. Maintain accurate production planning and scheduling information within the company’s ERP system. Review and update job priorities, due dates, work orders, and scheduling information as needed. Monitor production performance, lead times, capacity, WIP, and OTD metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement. Participate in production meetings and provide updates regarding schedule status, priorities, constraints, and potential delivery risks. Communicate daily and changing production priorities clearly to Department Leads and Production Supervisors. Help identify opportunities to improve production flow, reduce downtime, minimize WIP, and improve overall manufacturing efficiency. Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and other departments to resolve production issues and maintain workflow. Maintain accurate records and reports related to production planning and scheduling. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS 3–5 years of experience in production planning, production control, scheduling, or a related manufacturing environment. Experience working in a CNC machining or precision manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production flow, and scheduling principles. Experience working with an ERP/MRP system. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize multiple jobs and changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Ability to work effectively with Production, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and other departments. High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to proactively identify problems and take action before they impact customer delivery.
