Maintenance Designer (Transportation Specialist I or II) Houston District Maintenance - (2602590) Position Information Join the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Houston District Maintenance Office and play a key role in the district maintenance operations. This position will be a member of the maintenance design group providing design support to the landscape architecture, contracts, and field operations teams. This position will be primarily office based but will require field visits for data collection and inspections. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Transportation Specialist II Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving multiple design and building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Essential Duties: Transportation Specialist I Assists in prioritizing and scheduling projects. Assists with project assignments and determining work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway. Assists with project design involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections. Coordinates and performs interim and final inspections to identify deficiencies.
