Major ContractingJob Summary We are seeking a motivated and skilled Lowboy Driver to join our dynamic transportation team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating specialized lowboy trailers to transport heavy equipment, machinery, and oversized loads across various routes. Your expertise in commercial truck driving, route planning, and cargo handling will ensure timely deliveries while adhering to all safety and regulatory standards. Duties Operate lowboy trailers, including flatbed and tanker configurations, to transport heavy machinery and oversized freight across short and long-distance routes. Plan efficient routes using GPS navigation systems to ensure timely deliveries while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards. Load and unload cargo safely using manual handling techniques, ensuring proper securing of freight such as hazardous materials, dangerous goods, or specialized equipment. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the tractor-trailer, checking brakes, tires, lights, and load security to maintain safety compliance. Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, and delivery documentation in accordance with FMCSA regulations. Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding route adjustments, delivery schedules, or unforeseen issues during transit. Ensure compliance with hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous substances. Requirements Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for tractor-trailer operation, including Hazmat certification if applicable. Proven experience in truck driving, particularly with lowboy or flatbed trailers handling freight such as heavy equipment or oversized loads. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route planning for over-the-road (OTR) driving routes. Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT standards, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for manual handling and cargo securing. Ability to operate manual transmission trucks confidently and handle complex logistics cargo handling tasks. Strong driving record demonstrating safe driving habits and adherence to all traffic laws. Excellent communication skills for coordinating deliveries and ensuring safety procedures are followed.
