Job Overview We are seeking a motivated, results-driven Logistics Broker / Carrier Sales Specialist to join our growing logistics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for securing reliable transportation capacity by sourcing carriers, negotiating competitive rates, and brokering available freight to qualified transportation providers across Canada and the United States. This role requires strong negotiation and communication skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a proactive approach to developing carrier relationships. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing multiple shipments simultaneously, identifying cost-effective transportation solutions, and ensuring freight moves efficiently while meeting customer expectations. Key Responsibilities Load Brokering & Coverage: Proactively source, contact, and secure carriers to cover available freight shipments in a timely and cost-effective manner. Carrier Sourcing: Identify and develop relationships with asset-based carriers, owner-operators, and approved transportation providers to expand the carrier network. Rate Negotiation: Negotiate competitive carrier rates while maintaining target margins and meeting customer pricing requirements. Load Management: Review available loads, identify suitable carriers based on equipment, lane, location, and availability, and coordinate shipment assignments. Carrier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong working relationships with carriers to improve capacity, service reliability, and repeat business. Carrier Qualification & Compliance: Coordinate with the compliance team to ensure carriers meet company, insurance, safety, and customer-specific requirements before dispatch. Shipment Coordination: Communicate pickup and delivery details, transit expectations, special handling requirements, and shipment instructions to carriers. Tracking & Updates: Monitor shipment progress, obtain regular check calls, track ETAs, and ensure timely updates are entered into the transportation management system (TMS) and customer portals. Issue Resolution: Proactively address delays, missed appointments, breakdowns, capacity issues, and other service disruptions to minimize operational impact. Profitability Management: Identify opportunities to improve load profitability through effective sourcing, rate negotiation, and carrier selection. Documentation: Ensure rate confirmations, proof of delivery (POD), shipment documents, and other required records are obtained and maintained accurately. Customer Service: Work closely with internal operations and customer service teams to ensure shipments are covered and delivered according to customer requirements. Performance Monitoring: Support key performance indicators (KPIs), including load coverage, gross margin, on-time pickup and delivery, carrier reliability, and shipment completion. Position Requirements 1–3 years of experience in third-party logistics (3PL), freight brokerage, carrier sales, or transportation coordination preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience in the transportation or logistics industry preferred. Previous experience sourcing carriers, covering loads, and negotiating transportation rates is a strong asset. Working knowledge of the North American trucking industry, including dry van, reefer, flatbed, and other equipment types. Familiarity with Canadian and U.S. transportation lanes and cross-border freight requirements is an asset. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate professionally and build long-term carrier relationships. Ability to manage multiple shipments, prioritize time-sensitive tasks, and work effectively under pressure. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, spreadsheets, and transportation management systems (TMS).
