Railserve is hiring a mechanically skilled Regional Traveling Locomotive Mechanic based in Richmond, CA to support locomotive maintenance and repair throughout the region. This is a full-time, hands-on traveling role critical to keeping locomotives safe, reliable, and available to support customer operations. Job Description The Regional Traveling Locomotive Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing locomotives throughout the Richmond, CA region to ensure safe, reliable equipment is available to support customer operations. This position performs scheduled, preventive, and emergency maintenance, diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems, and travels to customer locations based on equipment and operational needs. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanic who enjoys troubleshooting, working independently, traveling to different locations, and taking ownership of equipment reliability. Schedule Schedule may vary based on operational and customer needs Regular regional travel required Nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required Compensation $28.00 – $32.00 per hour based on experience Duties Perform scheduled, preventive, and emergency maintenance on locomotives, including Gen-Set, SW, and GP models Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues Troubleshoot equipment failures and determine appropriate repair solutions Travel throughout the region to perform locomotive maintenance and repairs Communicate with customers regarding equipment status, upcoming repairs, and maintenance priorities Perform equipment inspections and identify mechanical, electrical, and safety concerns Maintain accurate preventive maintenance checklists, invoices, shipping documents, expense reports, and other required records Safely handle and dispose of oil, diesel fuel, filters, and other maintenance materials Safely operate hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, welding equipment, and other maintenance equipment Conduct periodic equipment safety assessments Recommend corrective actions when equipment or safety concerns are identified Follow company and customer safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment Perform additional duties as assigned Job Requirements Strong mechanical experience and hands-on troubleshooting ability Locomotive, diesel, heavy equipment, industrial, or similar mechanical experience preferred Electrical troubleshooting experience is a plus Associate degree or technical training in a mechanical field preferred; equivalent work experience will also be considered Valid driver's license required Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the region Ability to safely operate a cutting torch and electrical welder Ability to understand and follow …
