We're hiring a Licensed Customs Broker / Senior Entry Writer for one of our clients in Houston, TX. Please have in mind first: this is a full-time, fully in-person role at the client's Houston office (ZIP 77090). Remote and hybrid are not available. You must already live within a practical daily commuting distance and be comfortable with normal Houston weekday traffic. You'll be asked for your current ZIP code and estimated commute time to 77090. About the role Our client is looking for a hands-on, experienced Licensed Customs Broker to manage customs entries from start to finish while also providing technical guidance, regulatory oversight, and support to the import team. You may also serve as the company's designated Corporate Customs Broker License Holder. This is not a compliance-only or management-only seat: you'll personally prepare entries, talk to customers, resolve regulatory issues, review others' work, and mentor less-experienced team members. Experience with Descartes (OneView) is strongly preferred. What you'll do Customs entry processing: Personally prepare, review, transmit, and monitor customs entries end to end (air, ocean, and border-crossing shipments) Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and arrival notices, and validate entry data in Descartes or similar Prepare and transmit entry summaries and customs documentation, including In-Bond transactions and ISF filings Monitor entry status and respond quickly to rejects, holds, exams, and CBP requests; handle post-entry corrections Maintain accurate, complete electronic entry files Regulatory compliance: Ensure transactions comply with CBP regulations, 19 CFR, and PGA requirements Provide guidance on HTS classification, valuation, country of origin, admissibility, and special trade requirements Review complex, high-risk, or unusual transactions and keep documentation audit-ready Track regulatory changes and support CBP Responsible Supervision and Control Customer support, team guidance, and process improvement: Communicate directly with customers on documentation, classification, and PGA questions, and manage assigned accounts Coordinate with carriers, airlines, steamship lines, terminals, and warehouses as needed Provide technical guidance to Import Specialists and Entry Clerks, review their work, and train and mentor the team Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to procedures, workflows, and documentation standards What the client is looking for Active U.S. Customs Broker License At least 5 years of hands-on customs brokerage or import-compliance experience Current experience personally preparing customs entries from start to finish Strong working knowledge of CBP regulations, 19 CFR, ACE, HTS classification, ISF, and PGA requirements Experience with air and ocean imports, reviewing commercial documents, and validating entry information Solid knowledge of customs valuation, country of origin, admissibility, and entry documentation Ability to research and resolve complex regulatory questions independently Strong organization, attention to detail, and professional written and verbal communication Dependable attendance and reliable transportation; you must live within daily commuting distance of Houston, TX 77090 and work fully in person A plus in the client's eyes (these will strengthen your profile) 10+ years of customs brokerage experience Extensive Descartes experience, plus ACE and DIS Experience training entry writers or leading a small customs team Experience with PGA-regulated or complex commodities (machinery, electronics, automotive parts, chemicals, perishables, dangerous goods) Strong Excel skills Bilingual English/Spanish The details Location: On-site in Houston, TX (77090).
