Avon Protection plcPurpose of Position: The lead material handler is a highly skilled, hands-on member of the Materials team responsible for supporting the safe, accurate, and timely movement of materials. This position performs Material Handler responsibilities while also providing additional day-to-day coordination, training, problem-solving, and operational support across the Materials department. The Lead Material Handler works closely with the Warehouse & Logistics Manager to balance workload, coordinate coverage, communicate priorities, and address material-flow issues before they affect operations. The employee is expected to regularly perform Material Handler duties while serving as a resource for other material handler employees. The role does have responsibility for employee discipline, performance management, scheduling approval, or other management decisions Responsibilities Perform and maintain proficiency in all Material Handler responsibilities. Regularly provide hands-on support across the materials department Work with the Warehouse & Logistics Manager to balance the day-to-day workload of the Materials team. Coordinate & adjust resources and coverage to prevent areas from falling behind or creating production delays. Help ensure urgent production and customer needs are prioritized appropriately. Act as the first point of contact for day-to-day material flow issues. Identify potential bottlenecks and work to address them before they impact production. Escalate significant staffing, inventory, material flow, or operational concerns to the WHLM. Assist with truck/container loading and unloading. Assist with cycle counts and inventory discrepancy investigations. Train and cross-train the team of Material Handlers on required tasks and standard work. Provide hands-on coaching to help employees develop proficiency in their assigned responsibilities. Verify employees can safely and consistently perform required tasks before recommending completion of training. Reinforce established standard work, safety requirements, inventory processes, and Materials procedures. Identify skills or training gaps and communicate additional training needs to the WHLM. Support ongoing cross-training to improve flexibility and coverage throughout the Materials team. Maintain flexibility to respond to changing production, staffing, and operational needs. Develop, document and maintain work instructions for the Materials processes as needed. Qualifications and Experience Demonstrated proficiency in all Material Handler responsibilities. Demonstrated knowledge of Materials processes, including Receiving, Kanban/material replenishment, inventory control, and material movement. Ability to safely operate required material-handling equipment, including forklift & box truck. Experience performing inventory transactions and supporting inventory accuracy. Ability to perform cycle counts and assist with inventory discrepancy investigations. Ability to read, understand, and consistently follow standard work, procedures, and safety requirements. Ability to prioritize workload and adjust to changing production and operational needs. Ability to coordinate daily workload and coverage across the Materials department. Ability to identify material-flow issues, bottlenecks, or potential delays and take appropriate action or escalate concerns. Demonstrated ability to train and cross-train employees on Material Handler tasks and standard work. Ability to provide hands-on coaching and reinforce consistent processes and expectations. Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to communicate priorities and issues clearly. Strong attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy. Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and willingness to provide hands-on support wherever needed within Materials. Desirable Skills Ability to obtain and maintain a hi-lo license.
