Lead A&P Mechanic (Cessna Fleet: Airframe, Powerplant & Troubleshooting)
Aspire AviationOverview Lead weekday maintenance operations (Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with flexibility for extra hours/AOG as needed) for Aspire Aviation’s 7-aircraft Cessna 172 fleet at Republic Airport (KFRG). Apply your Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) expertise, engineering-level root-cause troubleshooting, and leadership to supervise two full-time junior A&P mechanics and keep aircraft airworthy. Your impact: Methodical diagnostics and quality inspections ensure flight crews and students operate safe, reliable aircraft without trial-and-error parts swapping. (Note: Heavy avionics installations and bench repairs are handled by our partner avionics shop.) Responsibilities Lead and perform 50-hour, 100-hour, and Annual inspections (if IA certified), airframe and powerplant repairs, and flight line maintenance in strict compliance with FAA regulations (FARs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs), and manufacturer service manuals. Perform systematic, root-cause troubleshooting on Cessna 172 (M, N, P, and S) airframes, Lycoming engines (160 HP and 180 HP, including Power Flow exhaust systems), propellers, landing gear, and electrical systems. Diagnose and isolate mechanical versus line-level electrical squawks using wiring diagrams, schematics, borescopes, compression testers, and diagnostic tools rather than trial-and-error parts replacement. Supervise, mentor, and perform quality control for two full-time junior A&P technicians during weekday shifts, guiding proper use of hand tools, torque wrenches, safety wiring, and inspection procedures. Coordinate weekday maintenance priorities, digital logbook/maintenance tracking, and parts inventory with ownership and our weekend maintenance crew to minimize AOG downtime. Requirements Required: Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate. Required: 3+ years of hands-on aircraft maintenance and troubleshooting experience, OR 1–2+ years of hands-on A&P experience combined with a strong Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or advanced diagnostic background. Required: Strong proficiency interpreting maintenance manuals (AMM/IPC), airframe electrical schematics, and technical drawings, alongside safe use of electrical/mechanical diagnostic tools (multimeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, gauges). Strongly Preferred: Hands-on experience maintaining Cessna 100-series aircraft and Lycoming piston engines, plus an active FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) (or eligibility to obtain one). Strongly Preferred: Degree, coursework, or background in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Technology, paired with strong communication skills to train junior mechanics. Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour Benefits: Employee discount Tools provided Application Question(s): How many years of hands-on experience do you have maintaining and troubleshooting Cessna 100/200 series (or similar piston General Aviation) aircraft? Do you have a degree, coursework, or background in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical) or advanced diagnostic troubleshooting? If yes, please briefly describe. Do you currently hold an active FAA Inspection Authorization (IA), or do you meet the FAA requirements to test for one? Are you able to work full-time Monday through Friday (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM) in Farmingdale, NY (KFRG), with flexibility for occasional extra/AOG hours as needed? Work Location: In person
